So.Origin is horrible. At least for me. Everytime I start it up it gives me some windows error. It also lags my computer when starting up and prevents my computer from logging off. I owe pretty much all TS4 eps except for this starwars thing as I hate scifi. So today I found out that Steam was having a TS4 sale. 5 Euro's for basegame. I figured: "Well in that case I can finally get rid of Origin and just use steam.". Imagine my surprise when I bought the Sims 4 on steam, installed it, and it telling me to download origin to play it. Eh what?So what's the point of Steam selling it then? Obviously I already asked a refund. Isn't Origin basically just the same thing as Steam but for EA games? The Sims 3 on Steam works fine without Origin so..

I'm hoping once the game is out of development, they'll remove the requirement to have Origin when in a Steam installment; and I'll install it on Steam then. Origin is a really badly functioning client. Tbh Ubisoft does the exact same thing, and I think Rockstar too. You need to download their clients to play the games, Uplay and Rockstar Games. Sucks to say the least, and btw, you'd be surprised to know Origin is the least awful one of them.

I bought majority of the publisher first party on their respective storefront. Just because I primarily used steam doesnt mean i would rebuy all my game on steam that I already bought on Origin or Uplay.i think their main purpose is to attract a diehard steam fans to their games, because some people have this policy or mindset "no steam no buy" ever since the epic games fiasco.

Yeah the fact that it's through Origin even when you purchase it from Steam means there is absolutely no incentive for current owners to buy it. I had considered it before I found out it would still run through Origin. And to be honest even though I own most of Sims 4 already, if they ever did change Steam purchases to bypass Origin, I would consider it again - at huge discount prices only of course. Other games on Steam use launchers but they are still run through Steam. I don't own another Steam game that requires an entirely different game library application to run it and I never will.

So what exactly is the point of TS4 on Steam?

That is an good point and Steam is not the only one, you can buy games on Epic like Assassin Creed Origins but you must have an Ubisoft acct. In my case I have no problems with Origins but I have problems with Epic's launcher and hate to use it but they have one thing that keeps me using them and that is the free games which are above average and modern and you need no premium subscription to play them.

I'm going through this with jedi fallen order, but find origin the 'best'. Epic's ok, but steam bugs out for me, and the others are ?. I hate having to sign into 2 at once though, so if origin could do away with this for sims 4 and other games, I'd be thrilled.

They are hoping for a bite out of the Steam audience. EA originally used Steam, wanted a bigger cut of the revenue and more control so they divorced Steam and mandated Origin, then came back to appeal to their large audience (but still requiring Origin).

There are plenty of people that will not touch something if it is not on Steam, and honestly the only reason I have Origin is the Sims. Granted for a long time I resisted the digital distribution train in general. So, yeah, it is there to make money. Nothing more, nothing less.

They came back and marked the price of their previous games higher. In some regions Sims 3 used to be cheap on Steam but now cost twice as expensive after EA came back to Steam.
