Sticking to One Save File

So unlike in previous iterations, I have been sticking to only a few saves for TS4. The thing is, after a while these save files get bigger and bigger, and, in some cases, pretty corrupted. Now, how many of you choose to stick to only one or a few save files to continue to play over the years? If you do, do you have any tips how to "cleanse" these files every once in a while? I recently started a new save files after almost a year of playing the same save exclusively, and I was shocked by how fast the loading screens were in this new save... and only then realized just how out of hand my main save has gotten.

There are also cache files that can be deleted, I delete the "localthumbcache" each time, and that helps. But I would recommend you get advice from the experts before deleting anything.

I just added a third save for a new legacy, that with my other two should give me enough variety, but I always seem to find a reason for adding more lol. At least in 4 it's easier to keep the number of saves down, since you can play all the neighborhoods in one game.
  • I stick to one game. Sometimes I go for along time, and sometimes I get tired after a short time. I delete the game, and and start fresh. I've never gone a year or more with one game. I get impatient, lol!
  • I've always used just one file, and I'm currently trying to get 10 generations. How do I save my Sims families in a new save? I see someone mentioned saving into library, does this reset how far they are into their current age? Do they keep everything as is?

I also have rebuilt every lot into my own, which are saved in the Gallery. When making a new save file, do I have to replace all of them again? How about relationships my sims have with townies?
I'd really appreciate some help with this.
  • I've used the same save since the 24-hour trial and my save is not corrupted. I am actually using a backup copy of the save now though (not because of corruption). So it's basically the same save. When something goes wrong, I usually repair the game and the problem is usually solved. It's probably a good idea to make backups of your saves and save copies of your buildings and sims.
  • Thanks for your responses, guys!

@Emmely_Bettine If you save Sims to your library and place them in a new save, they retain all of their skills, their job, their relationships with fellow household members, their aspiration reward traits and points, and I'm pretty sure also their current age. They will lose all other relationships with Sims not in the household, even if you place both families in the same save - they will also lose familial relationships with anyone not in the household you saved them in. They will lose relationships with townies because the new save will have new townies. You'll have to repopulate the new save, and place new lots. The new save will be brand new, with every lot and all premades in their as they were when you started your first save.
  • I'm paranoid of losing my families/progress so I have multiple save files, like 5-6. I "save as" at the end of each session and overwrite the oldest file. Haven't really had any problems doing it this way so far!

I delete the oldest file and save new using the same name, for example, Wellington 01, Wellington 02. Etc. I want a clean fresh save, hoping this will or even corruption.
