Why are there strays wandering in and out of my house and how do I get them to leave?! What an annoying feature

I had only JUST moved in. I got my furniture all set up and then I went to play with my Sim in Live Mode and there was already two dogs in the house. They slept on the couch and barked at each other. So I finally kicked them out and locked the doors but now they stand at the door wanting to come in. So frustrating that I have to lock my doors...

WOW! I finally get them out and lock the doors and all fence entrances, then the little buggers cut through the bushes and are now running amok in my backyard. I have never been so annoyed with this game.

I saw a post suggested that there are lot traits that attract strays. Maybe you're using one of those?

Thank-you! The lot does have the Dog Hangout trait...getting rid of that! Thanks so much, hopefully that helps.

Glad you got it figured out.....but that does sound hilarious that your lot was being invaded by strays, lol......frustrating at the time, but pretty funny in hindsight, ha.

What about the no dogs allowed/no cats allowed rugs? Do they actually work or are they just decorative?

Wait! There's rugs?! All I found were signs but they didn't seem to work for me. I'll see if I can locate these rugs and try em.

I had this issue too! I think it was definitely the Dog Hangout trait. As soon as I moved in four dogs were running in and out of my house, blocking entrances and using my toys. I befriended them (after being mean didn't get them to leave) and used the 'Leash' interaction and walked them outside and then locked the door for all pets until they were out of sight.

Yeah. When I placed my renovated Salt House in SM it had the Cat Hangout trait and I IMMEDIATELY got 4 strays inside my living room that refused to leave whatever I did. I had to remove the trait, and they just walked out immediately.

You can use the lot traits, but lock the doors for all pets except household. That way the strays won't go inside but they will come to your lot. In the save where I play with Catarina, I did that and I added a food bowl and litter box outside so the strays (especially Mayor Whiskers) would be able to take care of their needs.

You can always go into build mode and change the lot traits for the house.

I remove the lot trait but the strays are still not leaving. I've tried shooing them, but nothing is working. How do i fix this???

Leave the lot for a time and come back, try that.
