The game offers the illusion that all professors work part time as teachers, and write books, or go on scavenger hunts or something in their extra time. That's not exactly accurate.
For starters. Most books are written by doctors in their field, and more so than not, a non-doctorate degree professor will mostly just contribute to the book by helping with a chapter, or some level of consultation to the person who is actually writing the book.
When it comes to professors working only 3 days a week.... I recall 2 of my professors in particular who would have fit this schedule.... my spanish professor, and my history professor. (not the most popular subjects).
However..... economics, math, english, psychology, and sociology (for example), the more commonly filled classes, had multiple professors working full time to keep up with the student damand. There were 3 full time economic professors at uni when I attended (long ago).
Apparently, EA/Maxis decided to base their professors (in game) on the schedules we can attribute to my old Spanish Professor... rather than the schedules the economics professors tried to keep up with.
I don't mind the professor degree earning less per hour than the other game careers... if EA/Maxis wanted the professors in the game to be the least profitable career... that's fine. But, to have them (a) not just earn very little money per hour in comparison to other careers, but also (b) work less days than the other career directions as well.......
...... that put professors at an overwhelming deficit behind pretty much every other profession.
Its just crazy that I can make more money per day (or at least as much) as an honor degree graduate by simply creating and selling 2 paintings without any uni training, or active career in painting. Or by catching fish, or scavenging for trinkets. etc.
IMO, the university pack not only highlighted, but also contributes to, a major inbalance in how we earn money in-game. When I had a celebrity musician struggling to keep up with earning money as quickly as a highschool student selling paintings in her free time..... a celebrity vs a highschool student.... that to me is sounds like the game is suffering from an economic problem. (5 paintings per day earns about, or just under, 40,000 simoleans a week.) It was quite the struggle to keep my celebrity musician at 40,000 plus per week.
