The 5 days normal infant lifespan is hilariously bad

I would say that infants is probably the most complex out of all the lifespans and they decided that 5 days was a good amount of time to anything. Infants have LOT of milestone and stuff to unlock. Trying different foods requiring sitting up, which is a milestone that is unlocked after a lot of tummy time. Tummy time takes a lot of time since it's not a continuous activity, it's something that requires you having to spam, and if both parents work outside the home, then it's not happening.. Infants want to sleep every hour which also takes up time. With infants, on top of trying to unlock milestones the ability to try foods, they also have a practice standing and crawling, the latter in which is required to be able to read to them.

The point is, that 5 days to do anything in that lifespan is just bad. I have a mod that sets my infant's lifespan to 15 days. 15 day is long, and I was able to unlock all the food preferences and a lot of milestones but not the crawling, which I'm still working on before she ages up in one day. It can still be a grind. I'm aware that people can turn aging off and that long lifespan is a thing, but normal lifespans with aging on, you'll be lucky enough to get the infant to clap before they are suddenly aging up into a toddler.

If you're a completelist, this stage will drive you mad on normal lifespan with aging on.

  • I never bother with all the milestones.  I get all the major motor ones done so the infant can age up with motor skill 2, and all the rest are a bonus.  I occasionally have an infant get their first word but it’s rare.

I have no trouble with the milestones at all, my infants usually pop out smile, coo, lift head and grab in the first 10 mins or so. I've actually aged a few up early due to them being so easy. giving a bubble bath will give you both bath ones. have somebody come over right after they age up. the highchair ones are pretty easy to get. some i leave until they are toddlers, like first friend etc...

Gosh, I would hate to play with aging on.

  • I turn the aging off until I am ready to age up all toddlers. Then I turn on Long lifespan after the 1st toddler ages up to a child giving me the chance to age up remaining toddler(s) so that everyone - on a long life span are aged differently.  I  do sometimes wait until the calender shows their upcoming birthday, then I'll just 'plan' that one.     I remember when in Sims you could watch your toddler grow, that was before when infants didn't exist.  or maybe it was an older generation of sims that I saw it - 🤪  I wish they would tweek it and put it back in the game or maybe a slider for the duration of pregnancy.   I feel that normal is way too short for me even with only 1 birth - teen age group.  I have never tried to play teens on "normal" aging.

I hear you. I would like to still be around for when my Sims age.  70, now.

  • I play on Long. That gives you plenty of time. Now, that I've had several infants (not all at once) in my game, I no longer stress out about the milestones as I did in the beginning. In many ways, they occur without help, just as in RL. Take a deep breath and change the length setting in your game. The only time I played with aging off was back in Sims2 when we didn't have but the one choice. I really liked Epic in Sims3, but Long is a good substitute.

  • Aging off for me. I love the infant and toddler stages and continue to play them even after completing all milestones.

One of my toddlers, Isabel, now a young adult, was a toddler for almost a year. Real life year. 😄
