The mean and evil traits...

In real life, I have some family members who I classify as mean. But you know what, I still like them. And just because they can be mean to me sometimes doesn't mean that how I feel about them takes a hit. In fact, they are meaner to people they don't like than those they do.

So how is it realistic that my mean sim is happy but you know what, they'll just yell at their wife just because they feel like it.

Edit: I'm not sure how they would fix it, but my main problem is if I have two sims in a household and one of them has the mean trait, leaving them alone is a no-no. If I don't pay attention for a few minutes, the mean sim has autonomously queued up mean interactions with the other sim, even if they have a full relationship bar. It's worse when the sim is their best friend or soulmate. I mean, I would think with that status, the other sim would learn that the other person is just mean natured.

For me, people who are mean in general, its just who they are. I can't take it personally when they do it to every person they interact with. And if they are being mean to me in a way that is personal, well, they know exactly what they're doing. But usually it's because they are feeling tense, angry, or I did something that angered them and they want to get back at me. Or, they don't like me.

I've never really had an issue with the evil trait. The one that is the problem is mean spirited. I usually don't set my sims with that trait, but I did download a sim who has that trait and she kept terrorizing her boyfriend. It drove me nuts because their relationship stayed low. I've found evil to be more focused on emotions and behaviors on self. Mean spirited deals with being mean to others.

My Teen didn't have the Mean trait, but he was going throught a Mean Streak phase and actually got into a fight with his brother. They were good friends as children but went all the way down to disliked.

I find evil and mean Sims make good candidates for the Criminal careers if I end up with one.

I agree. I find it annoying that I have to closely watch my mean sims when they're having a conversation or else they start autonomously yelling at friends and family members.

Honestly, I disagree. That's like saying I wish good sims would behave badly.

The mean/evil trait is to make sims mean/evil, no matter who their are talking to, it's just their personality. Your suggestion would honestly bland out the traits even more.

i know changing a sim's traits in cas doesn't work, but have you tried the re-traiting rewards potion? i haven't tried it myself, but maybe that will work?

I prefer for them to keep those actions autonomous. It makes the traits meaningless if you remove them, and I'm so over traits that don't do much to truly change my Sim's personality.

It doesn't bother me too much. My main Sim is the big three with Mean, Evil, and Hot Headed, and I think it suits the traits pretty well for her to be mean to even her best friend sometimes. For her friends and family, I never let it dip too far down, anyway.

Heck, sometimes I think the traits don't make her mean enough sometimes. Like when she gets a whim to apologize to someone she's been mean to, especially to someone she's fully in the red with. Doesn't make any sense for a mean/evil Sim to want that.

I don't think evil sims should be autonomously mean.. because they could be actually be charming people with a deviant plan. Sims with a mean trait though .. well mean people are sometimes/often mean to even people they love, then they have to work at the relationship to keep it up.. I don't think I'd want them to necessarily tweak that down but I can understand the frustration of not being able to play the way you want to or see it happening.

I've never had too many problems with the Evil trait really; one of my first sims ended up being given that trait and I've learned to morph his unique personality around it. He has just the right amount of mean sometimes but is not overtly mean when I make it so. It's Mean sims I generally dislike, but it's one of the few negative traits that have any real influence in anything. The Mean trait can carry itself to various interesting stories, like ones involving abuse, but it is still possible to have a decent relationship with a Mean sim (i.e. one of my sims had a boyfriend who was occasionally mean to him whenever they went out, and ironically it was my sim that always had to apologise to him after he casually insults him; abuse much?)

If you personally find it unreasonable for you, I suggest simply saving you the trouble and apply the positive character values onto the Mean/Evil sims if you have Parenthood, especially the Good Manners one. Applying that on my fave evil sim actually helped me round out his personality and now he doesn't occasionally insult his own mother, wife, and toddler son anymore and only relishes in people's misery now.
