Okay, so inspired by this thread, I decided to start a new save and replace all premade families with 'random' Sims from the Gallery. I ran into a couple problems though. First, it is truly random! What I mean by that is, if I want to replace a young adult female Sim with another young adult female Sim, it might take a few clicks before one is randomized. The randomizer will give you everything from toddlers to elders when you hit that button.
I've noticed not many Simmers play adult Sims by doing this too. It took me a long time to find an adult female Sim to replace Katrina Caliente. Actually it was kind of funny when I did finally get one. It was an adult NINA Caliente. lol
Their names all change to the random Sims' name too. I had to remember who it was I was trying to replace and change their names back to that. Also, relationships all change to roommate, so I had to do this in the cas.fulleditmode in order to set the correct relationships.
If you want to keep the same body style, skin color, hair style, color, eyes, etc., it's easy to do with the normal in-game random Sim selection. But that doesn't work with random Sims from the Gallery, EVERYTHING is randomized.
I still like this feature though, it'll be great for randomizing townies, but if you try something like I have, it'll take a lot of time finding a Sim you want to use to replace a premade. I ended up trying to keep the same hair color and ethnicity in my search, but in the end I had to change that to the 'correct' one too because it was taking too long to find a similar Sim using randomize from the gallery.
Aspirations/Traits are all randomized too, obviously, to what the random Sims creator made for them. Not a problem really, but there are some Sims I wanted to keep the same characteristics. Like Don Lothario for one. I changed his to what he originally had just because, well, it's Don! He's very iconic. I haven't done the Goths yet, but I'm wondering now if I should even try. lol
It's been a fun experiment so far. I'm going to continue until I have an entire game save with all premade Sims randomized and replaced with Gallery Sims. Probably take awhile, but I'm hoping it'll be worth it to have an entire set of new Sims from all of your uploaded Sims. :)
Oh and like someone else said, Wow, Simmers sure make some, er, interesting Sims! Not very many 'normal' ones randomized. I also noticed that the randomized Sims seem to come from a certain 'set.' I had to stop for awhile and when I came back to start again, the same Sims as before started popping up again with only a few new ones. Took awhile to get to the 'end' of ones I'd already seen.
Just thought I'd share my experience with this feature. It's been very interesting and gave me a lot of laughs, that's for sure! ;)
