I was literally called a bootlicker because I told people to chill out with their anger. People are acting like Maxis insulted their family by daring to do an eco-friendly pack. I'm not thrilled about the pack either, but personally insulting the developers, calling them trash, is sickening.
And yet, people will turn around and complain that the devs don't share enough with us. If I were a developer, you wouldn't be getting anything aside from teasers and trailers. No Quarterly Teasers, no Maxis Monthlys, nothing.
Yeah. I know that it's taken a while to get some of the "classic" themes, and that is frustrating to people, especially if they see things they don't want coming our first, but we get regular patches that often give us free content as well as bug fixes. EA don't have to give us free content at all, nor even any information outside of game releases. The fact that they have twice asked the community to choose stuff pack themes and content is also a big deal. Sure, I haven't always agreed with how the process has worked, or the results, but the fact that they even give the community an opportunity to choose what we want, is pretty good.
For me the biggest issue here, I suppose, is the fact that the detractors are slagging off real people with real feelings. People who are just doing their jobs, the same as most people. It can be easy to forget that from behind a computer screen. I know I've done that sometimes, and I usually feel bad about it later. I guess some people just don't, though.
There are people who love the idea of the new pack, and that's great because the pack is clearly going to improve the game for those people. It's easy enough to just not buy it if we don't want it. I'm not currently enthusiastic about the new pack but I've learned in the past year that I should never say never to buying a specific pack. At the beginning of last year I was convinced I would never buy any stuff packs, and also that I would never buy Cats and Dogs. I now own 2 stuff packs and Cats and Dogs....
