Unpopular and controversial opinion: The Sims 4 should not be a build/architecture/dress-up game!

I've noticed that in recent years we as a community started to give enphansis to primarily secondary features of what makes The Sims being The Sims.
What I mean by that is that we started to divide the so called "different playstyles" and EA is making profit of that. A divided community has been a success and a way to keep The Sims 4 alive.

BUILDING IS NOT THE ENTIRE GAME!
I know I'm being controversial here for saying this but keep in mind that this is my personal opinion based of what I see.
I keep seeing an increase of the use of build/buy and cas features (game tools, not gameplay) being used to justify the value of The Sims 4. It's almost like the only way (beside graphics and performance, which by the way are two debatable arguments...) for people to justify the ammount of money that is invested in the current title of the main The Sims series.

We call building a playstyle now but building was since the beginning a secondary feature, same to cas.
The biggest game changers are mainly builders, their impact comes to build/buy and actually gameplay features (THE LIVE MODE) has been constantly hurt! It's so hard to keep invested on this game unless you use it as an architecture tool or a dress up game.

A lot of simmers say the core of the game is poor and boring and it's true. The fundamental base level of this game drastically changed from it's predecessors. The Sims 4 doesn't follow the successful Will Wright's formula anymore!

The original idea of dollhouse/architecture game was totally scrapped before the game changed into The Sims (a term already used in SimCity and other Maxis games to refer simulated people). And that's what The Sims is about! A people/life simulator!

I don't think The Sims 4 will ever be at the same level as the other three main games in the series but I can only hope for a better future game. At this moment I think The Sims is becoming another thing that wasn't meant to be and we as community need to recognize that!

The Sims 4 is the only one that doesn't mention Will Wright in the credits and quite frankly it makes a lot of sense!
  • I don't like when ppl get all dismissive of other play styles and think theirs is better or what the game should be more focused on. Like I see ppl saying that builders shouldn't have gotten their own pack because that's not what the game is focused on. When for me building and live mode is equally important to me because I wouldn't enjoy one without the other. My motivation and inspiration to build comes from live mode and my inspiration and enjoyment I get from playing live mode comes from the stuff I build.
  • And sticking to the thread theme, every aspect of the game is actual gameplay, doesn't matter if you only play with Build, CAS or Live Mode, everything is gameplay and you can play in the way you want, because this is The Sims.

That's kinda what I found bad about TS4. The live mode does not motivate to build. What motivates to build is just how easy it is to share creations, gain followers on the gallery or youtube, twitter, etc... almost like a contest. The Sims is becoming less of a game and if in the past I was strongly opposed to this, now I kinda see it since the options are so unbalanced! I like improvements but I would love even more if all the game modes received the same love.
What happedned to the latest dlc? No one is talking about it anymore... Everything is so niche and temporary this days!

To be fair we were lacking things like terrain tools.

What? Terrain tools came to The Sims 4 in November 2018, seems like you don't play the game a lot or that you never read news about it...

Also, pond tool is coming on Cottage Living pre-pack patch.

I honestly think that while the Sims 4 differs and might fall short compared to previous titles in terms of gameplay, I also feel that LPs for sims youtubers has lost a lot of viewership and ad revenue opportunity, which has a lot to do with how Youtube monetizes or demonetizes content and can become an issue when people are spending so much time and energy on videos. I personally prefer spending my time playing the game, and only spend an extended period of time in cas/build mode at the beginning of a save. However, I do like watching LPs as well (shes not a sims youtuber per se but amandabb's sims videos are sooo funny to watch)
