All in all I do like the dust concept. It adds an extra dimension to chores in the game. Plus adds some more much needed tension to the lives of Bob and Eliza Pancakes! My gripes are:
1- Now everyone's obsessed with cleaning. The inspired moodlet overpowers all over emotions regardless of your personality traits. Eliza might feel inspired by a clean house but Bob certainly shouldn't!
2- Dust builds up everywhere in a matter of hours. As I said I like it to be a required chore and for things to build up but for it to build up *hours* after I made the house pristine feels like the feature will get boring.
3- There are dust bunnies everywhere generating money. I get that they wanted to make this a prominant feature and its a lot of fun but couldn't this be something that comes up after a few days? Again within *hours* my house generates at least 3-4 dust bunnies making money which after a while just becomes a distraction.
4- I know that you can upgrade the hoover to work off the grid but couldn't they have also introduced a broom/dustpan and brush? Not every off the grid household will have the skills to upgrade the hoover and for consistency would benefit to work like laundry day does. I'm making a particular nod to Sims that develop the technophobe lifestyle too!
Overall a good kit. Just needs some tweaking!
I play tested this to death yesterday, 1.5 IRL hours, it doesn’t work. Which makes me sad. Even if they could clean the floor with their ever handy pocket mop in sections like after a fire, that would be great. But, I up graded all vacuums with the power cell and let the house get dustier and dustier, and nothing the vacuums didn’t work off the grid, and there was no option to remove the dust film from the floors. I could pick up piles and stomp bunnies but the filmy layer remained. Finally I gave up and let the fiends burn it all down.
The only way I have heard the vac work off the grid is with solar panels or windmills but then that’s not exactly completely off the grid. Because stoves, fridges, lights, tubs, showers, and sinks all work without those things, albeit at a lower functionality and that’s fine because they still work, and it’s realistic. Cooking, bathing, etc is harder and less efficient without electricity. So I just want the vacuums to work off the grid as promised or give us the option to do it manually even if it takes more time, because frankly that’s how it would really work.
