@Simmerville Thanks for the information! ??? Though I never click on links if I receive e-Mails about password-Problems, Account-closings etc. But there may always be people who are inexperienced or new to the Internet and therefor are not suspicious about phishing-mails.

In general, legit places never ask for passwords or other vital login info. Keep that in mind and just never follow these mails' instructions. Report them as phishing immediately. It's what I do.

There may be something to this. I tried to get in to play a little bit ago but could not, getting the expired/not valid warning. Remembering this topic from earlier in the day, checked my email, and found the one mentioned above. Went to the EA site to check and found they did a general precautionary thing. Staying in EA, went to account info and did a password change from there, not the email. Can get in now.

I don't hit unsubscribe as I'm too cautious. I just have to keep deleting stuff I don't want.

Hi. Fact is that the address they used is not connected to any accounts anywhere, but an old account I previously used for regular communication (friends, colleagues etc). They might have got it from someone's hacked mail account's address book.

I have my own domains, so I have a good structure for this, but I assume many simmers use one email account for everything. If so, it might be easier to get tricked into clicking on suspect links.

I just had one of these emails today. Instead of clicking the link in the email, I decided to sign into Origin, but my usual password didn't work, so I hit forgotten password and reset from the email that I was sent afterwards.
I have done a Google search and most result in the email being legitimate. Anyone know any different?

I have a bad memory for long passwords and Origin and other secure websites annoy me a lot with the constant asking me to verify my details by giving phone numbers so that I can put in the code I get on my phone to change passwords and such. It leads one to trust Microsoft to "Save password" and you have to really trust Microsoft to do that.

I found my oldest OS suppliers' passwords did get pwn'd by Trawling as they had very simple passwords in those days, four letters and 4 numbers, easily hacked. Unfortunately my present supplier who bought up the company, three takeovers later won't allow me to change my original log on address. Any attempt to change it landed me in a muddle with young tech savvy foreign help assistants who didn't understand the problem one can have with a 20 year's plus old account address from previous suppliers! Years ago millions of passwords got hacked in a couple of successful bad hacks. Mine had been and I blacklisted every suspect one I came across in the supplier's own email downloads. I blacklisted whole pages of them just by "select all" after archiving the good.

These days I just use one app I trust the most and check occasionally, just download email headings only and delete every email that looks dodgy and they are very few..

I do wonder why I'm still getting emails from a certain USA politician though as I don't remember showing any interest in them, living in the UK as I do!

Usually the first tell tale sign is the email address. It may look like EA (or any other company for that matter) but upon closer inspection you will see something different, like the extra 'e' in the email address, or 'Amazonhelp@amazn.co.uk'

If you are ever unsure about your account, or if you're worried that something may have happened, always contact them through their official email address and never the one that sent you the original email. Same goes for telephone numbers. Some of the emails can be quite threatening so it can be a peace of mind to check via the official contacts to make sure everything is okay.
