What are some good last last names?

Usually I first decide the ethnicity of my sims and then I search on the web for names and surnames that match them, sometimes I just click "random" until I get something I like, but apparently the list for names and surnames in TS4 is really smaller then it was in TS3.

Do you mind to share the name of the mod? I am going crazy with daily deleting all of the many many extra sims....

I go with standard names or sometimes fun ones that fit the job of the npc. So I have Smiths and Summers and Meyers but some of the npcs are called Pizzalotti, Appletree, I have a Cheriè Cakes, Sunrise...
Yeah, maybe not that special ?

Since I'm English, a large percentage of my generated sims end up with English surnames :) I could give you plenty of those lol.

If a sim looks to be a different ethnicity I either use the random clicky thing in cas until one seems to fit or I use Google.

I like to use cities, especially German & British- Berlin, London, Hanover, York etc. My current family is named Covington, there are several US towns by that name, including one hat got some negative news recently, but I'd been using this name since long before that happened. I like it because it seems to go well with most of the first names I like.

Once you get it, look for the one called World Sim Control 01 - Playable Households Only. Make sure you read the information they have with this mod.

I mean a lot of my Sims share the Same eyes, mouths and nose, but I still have them to come from different culture backgrounds

I google search names I want to give my characters,
Like when I was searching for my "Founding Father's" names, I searched: Names meaning...
and then key terms like: River/Lake, Mountain, Valley, Plain, Woods/Flowers, Farmer, Gold, Silver, Courageous, Wise, Strong.
things that relate to a trait, where they're from, where they live, or what they live by, profession, or perhaps their destiny.
and then I attach Italian, English, French, Spanish, Germanic, Arabian and what not, to get variations
So names like Jordan, Montgomery, DuVale, Navarro, Bourbon (My founding Aristocratic Fathers)
Example of a Destiny: Dior, Poetic name because Gold is can be used to strengthen, as well as weaken, Sorcerers, an the somewhere Down The Line Ariana Dior, is that strength and weakness for Mason King, a Sorcerer. She will be his undoing and his saving grace.

I just use Google to look for first and surnames, based on ethnicity or country of origin etc. since I keep my game population under 300 (mods) I tend to use common/popular names.

I normally just put together smaller words to make a new last name. Like Bearfield, Fairwood, Wooblershield. But some times I also switch just a couple letters to make them more unique; Dearfiels, Lairwoob, Dooblershielz etc. You can also use the naming generator in CAS and replace a couple letters. It's all about preferences, what kind of game you play (harry potter universe, science fiction, downton abbey-ish, simlish, world cultures-ish, etc. With a few exceptions I cling to English/American/European names, occasionally with a Simlish twist.

There used to be a place in what is now East Tennessee called Outlaw's Cove. Through some research I learned that no, this wasn't called such because outlaws were holed up there, but rather a person with the surname of Outlaw more or less discovered and/or lived there. So, if you're looking for an unusual surname of unknown origins, there you go. ;)

I've actually known someone with the last name Outlaw. I think they were from Oklahoma.
