I still believe Seasons must be a thing for Sims 4, I believe that it should be for all the places, and I believe that all 4 seasons and all weather must be included in the game.
However, I don't know if applying snow to worlds that already exist is even technically possible without breaking saves. That's what they said why they could not make Appartements buildable outside of san myshuno. Because the patch to change the existing worlds to allow that would break all saves.
Personally, If I had to choose to either only have weather and seasons in one world but keep all my safe files intact, or have weather and seasons everywhere but being forced to start new games from scratch, I would choose the second option. But I can see other people thinking differently about that.
Also, I see how current Packs take longer to make and have a lower quantity of content in them compared to Sims 3, but I see that as a good thing, as they are able to focus on quality. After all, I prefer buying 3 game packs for my occults instead of one supernatural EP.
Sims 3 Supernatural gave us 3 new occults and an update for vampires, but the vampires were as buggy, twilighty and stupid as they were in late night, the werewolves were ugly, had almost no gameplay and the small amount they had was plum and the fairies were just boring.
The one occult that is my favourite in Sims 3 to this day are witches, and to me, they are the only ones worth playing as.
Sims 4 vampires gave us fleshed out, polished, cool and fun vampires with a lot of content to them. If we can expect such a treatment for all the occults, or at least the most important ones, I'll happily buy those GP's even if they double the prices. Period.
For Sims 3, Seasons was a big pack, and if all Seasons and all weather are put into one pack, they will not be able to include anything like seasonal festivals or something like that. They would either have to split it up, first release something and expand upon it later, or make a "Lite" version of what we had in 2 and 3.
I understand that a lot of simmers fear that seasons and weather will be limited to just one world, and all the other neighborhoods we already have would stay as they are, but one SimGuru already said on twitter that this is not what they want to do.
Not want to do and therefore will not do, or not want to do, but be forced to do regardless?
I hope for the first, but I would not be surprised for the latter. I would be dissapointed, even angry, but I would understand why they did it, as they already explained before the release of City Living. Would I still buy it? Probably at some point, but not on release and defenetely not out of excitement or because I believe it adds something to the game, but to have the entire collection. I would probably never use it.
My wife probably would. We share one Origin account, so EA wouldn't notice the difference. But knowing her, she would probably be plum too.
It is possible modders have done it already. Not falling snow, but yes they have applied snow to the worlds themselves.

I agree I didn't care for the supernatural EP squishing multiple supernaturals together either as it felt rushed. I honestly don't think Sims 4 will get a lot of supernaturals in general in it. I mean in more than three years we have ghosts, aliens, and vampires for life states and that is it. It is pretty sad. I feel like everything in the Sims 4 takes longer to make and because of that a lot of themes will just not be made. We got festivals already with City Living, so honestly the Sims 4 has done that and can put something else in the pack. I was hoping something new along the lines of environmental disasters. Seasons shouldn't be something that is candy coated. It is something that has a certain danger aspect to it. Knowing the Sims they'll add a humor aspect to it. It is actually really hard to talk about seasons with other players coming up with ideas for it because I get the automatic response I do not want it in my game. I hope you are right about what was said about seasons not being confined. I don't feel like seasons was lite in the Sims 2 and 3. Both had supernaturals in them, gameplay, and seasons you can pick from. Sims 3 Seasons was full of gameplay probably more so than even a lot of the other Sims 3 EPs: http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/The_Sims_3:_Seasons Sims 2 true probably was a bit lighter in the seasonal aspects than 3 was but still really fun and the first pack to bring it: http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/The_Sims_2:_Seasons I remember I really loved the greenhouses, the sprinkler system, and the bee houses and the juicer the most from the pack. PlantSims are my favorite in the Sims 2 as well, so I don't see them returning in a Seasons pack since they are a temp state in the Sims 4. I'm hoping for fairies or witches to come with it."Stormsview;c-16217610" wrote:

Having ultimatums such as all my way or the highway, seem to be coming from ones that have not invested in cats and dogs, and may not even be playing Sims 4, on regular bases if at all. In my option having Snow rain and fall/autumn virtually in every city or world, is not even plausible at this point and unnecessary.
Actually after I voted a bit ago, I tried cats and dogs again (I have everything except for the toddler sp, bowling, and the wall)..It made me throw in the towel and I uninstalled the game."Scobre;c-16218791" wrote:

Those mods are, as far as I can tell, just texture replacers. The only way to make seasons cycle with such mods is to keep installing and uninstalling them. In a proper Sims pack, Snow should be more than a white texture that replaces the grass textures and some rock and tree texture parts.
If they made it like that, they would have to have multiple texture sets and a script that changes the textures depending on certain conditions.
Having Snow pile like in TS 3 would be better, but that is even more complicated when it comes to code.
And for all of that, the neighbourhood must be compatible. And changing them to be compatible could potentially lead to corrupted saves.
I don't know how much they can change the existing worlds without breaking savegames. Modders can replace and edit textures no problem. even replacement meshes are possible. But buildable apartments in oasis springs is clearly something they cannot do for technical reasons.
Thanks to the vampires game pack, modders are able to change the day and night cycle in neighbourhoods, making it eternal night everywhere, and all that, safely. So there is hope. Making Days longer and shorter might be doable.
They won't be able to make the pack as big as in Sims 3, but I hope they find a way to put in what is necessary and to make it good.
What I could see them doing is first Seasons EP where they add all seasons, weather and basic weather and seasons related gameplay. Just the must-have stuff (Like freezing in winter, snow, falling leaves, interactions with snow and leaves... you get it), some outfits and some objects, and then later a vacation GP that adds a snowy mountain destination world that adds more interactions to snow and ice and all the other stuff. People who do not have seasons would not have snow outside that destination world, but would still have it there, and for those who own seasons, most of the new Gameplay would be unlocked in all the normal worlds during winter.
This way, they could bring us the best of both worlds."Armilus616;c-16219307" wrote:

Yeah like I said the weather doesn't rotate but I've just both in my saves and it hasn't corrupted them. I love seeing snow accumulate and Sims 3 did do it really well. I think it is doable too.
Yeah I have a feeling that will be it. For me I wouldn't want a vacations destination to just be a snowy area or any one single weather area. I'm hoping that if seasons pack comes, I can make Outdoor Retreat my fall and winter vacation destination because man the snow mod really looks nice there. I kind of hope we get like an Australian world destination where there is an outback, forests, and ocean areas in the neighborhood. It would be something different. Then again it could also be like the big island Hawaii which offers a snow area, a jungle area, a dry area, and beach areas. You can see snow in the middle of it with this map. It is beautiful there:

Modders only do it on the surface without changing game data - where as Maxis changes the code, programming and textures for all outside surfaces/item etc for each season, as well as clothing, plants programming, etc - etc and then add in interactions with the sims and at least some of the outdoors for activities. Maxis adds in programming to areas for sims to be used differently than it was before Seasons. Modders for the most part never affect the core programming - so it is easy to see how they make things possible with out breaking the saves - never mind the fact if the info is not in the game already in some form - most modder cannot use that programming. Your sims cannot react to textures - so texture overlays are just visuals for the player - they do nothing at all for the game and game play. From my understanding every time there is a data change done to the core programming - something as simple as putting in a toggle to turn some game characters off - breaks the save and why we don't have toggles. Changing from one season to the next is like one big major toggle - so personally I cannot figure out how they will do this just to allow seasons to change - never mind gradually like sims 3 or controllable like Sims 2 had. Modders texture over lays just change the picture - how things look - and does nothing at all to the game play but just like any FX - sims cannot be programmed to interact to texture changes or FX. Like we see the waterboats, the cars, the trolleys - but you could say the sims do not see them at all.
So overlays is not a solution to add weather to the game unless you just want it to look a certain way -
Certainly the save breaking issue is going to be sort of major to give us any kind of control on the seasons, never mind all the code and changes in programming data Seasons need to make it any more than what modders can already do.
I just have no idea how they would even begin to get around this and give folks the control and features they want in Seasons - and all that is just in adding seasons alone - never mind new play.
But saying if modders can do it - why can't Maxis is wrong. How much programming is in those overlays. Can the sims ice skate, throw snowballs, make snow angels, build snowmen with the snow? Or is it just a pretty picture that only the player sees but can't do a thing with? As far as I know sims do not get cold in those modder made weather overlays. What happens in other worlds? Does the overlay allow you to go from world to world fluidly?
Most modders will tell you if something in the way of programming is not in the game already - they can't make a mod to change that.- Personally, I'm not going to accept technical limitations as an excuse if they don't give us seasons and weather in all existing worlds. If it could be done 10 years ago in the engine of a 13 year old game, then there is no genuine reason why it can't be done now.
- I am sure they can do it.
I just have no clue if they can without breaking all the savegames.
They said that making apartments buildable outside of where they already are would require a patch that would inevitably break all savegames.
Forgotten Hollow has longer night than other worlds. The code for it allowes modders to change the length of day and night in all other worlds without breaking savegames. "Armilus616;c-16219818" wrote:

In that case then, they should've used a decent engine that could handle things like that without breaking saves. They managed it in the Sims 2 (buildable appts and weather) without breaking saves. We know from the eye watering amount of bugs and problems in this game that the engine is obviously not up to scratch for this kind of game, which is terrible and there's no excuse for it IMO. I've heard that a lot of EA's own in house game engines are dreadful so it's not just the Sims that's a victim to this.- wuffas8 years agoNew SpectatorI would never buy them if the seasons were split up in their own packs. That would be the utmost desperate money-grab and I am incredibly frugal.
Being able to adjust weather and the seasons for each world/neighborhood is a major option, in my opinion, that needs to be included if we ever get weather or seasons for the Sims 4.
They already said Seasons is possible in all worlds, so I don't know why this is a thread. Lol.
