- SerraNolwen8 years agoNew RookieI had a hard time deciding which answer to pick in the poll. I really wouldn't mind if winter got its own world, but if they're going to add rain, I'd rather it be in every other world. Then again, rain in Oasis Springs would be somewhat strange. Still, I'd love to have winter in most worlds, except Oasis Springs. In an ideal world, weather and seasons would be in every world, but slightly different based on the world...
Edit: As for getting multiple packs, I wouldn't mind a pack specifically for a winter world, but I certainly wouldn't pay 20$ for rain. That's why I hope they put everything together or make basic weather in a free update and sell us a winter world, at worst. - Saga-Minx8 years agoSeasoned SpectatorI like seasons, but at this time its not a must for me. I would be just as happy to send my sims to a ski vacation world, to experience winter.
It would be awesome if we could really ski or snowboard on mountains. - FriendlySimmers8 years agoNew Travelereven if its in separate gamepacks I would be happy to have seasons and weather back in game

Sims 1 vacations were all in one pack as well as I recall. You just did not have any weather in the regular game.
You do realise you're talking about a game that was released almost 18 years ago? That would definitely be a time warp to go back to something that came out that long ago.
It has nothing to do with time - as plenty of other games back then had weather effects in them - it had to do with game design and that is an issue in this game as well now there are issues with adding anything to the game that affects finished worlds. Sims 1 did have the added issue of being 2 D too. But I played games like Baldur's Gate - all of them - Diablo - and many others back in the late 1990's- 2002 all had weather - fierce snow and rainstorms in fact -"Cynna;c-16213413" wrote:

What you're after, then, is a toggle, an option, a choice!
I would love to see a weather system similar to what we had in TS2. The entire world had weather. Each sub-hood had its own weather. IIRC, we could even determine how long each season lasted for each hood (or maybe that was TS3, I forget). It was wonderful.
Oasis Springs could have very, very rare and brief rainfall with cool evenings in the "winter", perhaps.
Willow Creek, Newcrest, Magnolia Promenade, San Myshuno, and Granite falls could have all four seasons (they seem to be in high summer, at the moment).
Windenburg could be foggy and rainy, with a longer winter. However, the spring and summer could be bright and beautiful, as it is now.
Forgotten Hollow could be foggy, rainy, and cold most of the time. (Hopefully, with darker nights.)
The possibility of choices makes me very happy. I hope that it comes to fruition. The one thing that I'm not going to do is buy a pack for each of the three remaining seasons. That would be going too far.
Both Sims 2 and Sims 3 had you can pick your own season for each world and yes I agree it was wonderful. I prefer it that way because there are some places that don't have all four seasons and some places that do. I didn't even see falling snow growing up until I moved states. So I wouldn't want seasons forced based on location, but be able to pick my own seasons again at the location I want not what the game tells me to do. Sims 4 has gotten famous for forcing playing their way and not the player's way with limits. If they do Sims 4 Sims 1 style again or even in separate packs, that is telling me Maxis isn't taking any of their EPs seriously anymore. Seasons is as big as pets and I don't want to see another big themed pack get the short end of the stick again with limits. It is a miracle even Cats and Dogs got cats from what I heard the Gurus said about it and that I truly find sad especially since birds and small critters were made even with the first Sims iteration. So Seasons better blow the Sims community away, I'm tired of EPs stinking this iteration and the Sims 4 seriously needs an epic Seasons EP to redeem that product type again."Neia;c-16213465" wrote:
I couldn't vote because you're basically mixing "Several packs about Seasons" (which I don't mind) with "Seasons only in one place" (which I do mind), which are completely different topics not necessarly linked. I'm in the "I'm happy to buy several packs but I want seasons everywhere at the end" camp.
@JoAnne65
It's not based on suspicions, quite the opposite actually : they have already commented that restricting seasons to a specific world isn't what they would like to do. So odds are "weather confined to one new world" is in fact the least likely scenario.
Neia - if you recall that was stated by Daniel in the Q & A sessions we used to have back in 2014 and before they were aware there would be a toggle issue or issues affecting finished world by new added controls, etc. So I highly doubt that still holds true unless they ever find a way around this issue - as they also later said they cannot do anything that breaks players saves. That came up as an issue when they wanted to add controls for alien abductions or at least toggles - if you recall when so many people complained of alien abductions. Instead of giving us a control or toggle we seriously had alien abduction turned down so almost no one got any without a mod. They recently turned them up a bit but still had no success trying to toggle it.
Weather works on a type of control (if we have control) - and naturally every amount of weather change - does indeed change every world if weather is set in all worlds in the programs. Granted they have not commented either way on this since Daniels initial comment before all this was found out - so none of us has any proof. On my part it is just a deduction knowing how the programming works - combine that with thus far still no kind of toggles regardless of how loud people get over them - you tell me - do you really think when they said in 2014 about the worlds is still how it will be or do you think like I do - that there may very well now be an issue for us to have any weather control - if we get weather at all. I do think it may be possible for variant of Sims 2 style Seasons under AI control, but I can't see the better designed- player choice control of Sims 3 style weather.
I honestly am only coming to that conclusion because of what we know now - and the fact they still do not have player controls for things like toggles in the game - even though there was programming obviously in the game for player controls - they made the choice not to include them. I am fairly certain they are still fighting that issue and looking for a solution to it - but to me it all points to at this time there still does not seem to be a solution that matches what they first assumed would be no issue.
I use logic and deduction - something I cannot argue with - and believe me I am like the majority of players who prefer Sims 3 Seasons over all of the Sims games. I loved the control - the weather toggles (I always shut off hail - lol. I put all 4 seasons in and play the Max 28 days each Season because I love it so in the game. So my preference is Sims 3 style weather. Logic tells me with out the issues with controls and toggles corrected - that isn't going to happen. Without the issues combined that affect saves when changes are in the game that affect finished worlds is corrected - what happens to our save each time the game changes the weather or we do if they have got around the toggle issues yet? How much of the devs saying weather wouldn't be an issue in 2014 - still holds 100 percent true?
ETA -Those saying they wouldn't mind Sims 2 style weather - keep in mind There was not good control in Sims 2 weather - I constantly got snow and Rain in Strangetown and tried every trick in the book to stop it. Even the weather controller aspiration only worked on one lot - the lot it was on - and often did not give you the results you wanted. My sims once got bombarded with fire balls when I tried to have no rain during a wedding. I surely did not care very much for Sims 2 weather in tropical and desert towns.- @Writin_Reg
It's from February, 2017 actually

We can toggle various lot traits, the game can toggle various festivals, as well as night effects for example, so I think it will be fine :) - Neia - That is not the one I was talking about. The one I meant- was back during the sessions we used to get on this forum with the devs in Q & A and they would explain how parts of the game were made and answer our many questions indepth.
Well - I hope he is right then. Perhaps they found another way around the issues then so we can get controllable weather in worlds of choice. Maybe they are doing a different design - that is providing they make a seasons ep even. There is no hint in that - there will be - just that they won't confine it to just specific worlds or places.
I prefer Sims 3 style Seasons myself. "JoAnne65;c-16212183" wrote:
Is this poll purely hypothetical or based on founded suspicions?
*waiting for the answer before getting baffled*
Now, you know I have no inside info or have anything to do with EA. :D
It's based on what has been said in post and tweets by gurus concerning this engine, when they discussed as Reg mentioned they would not be able to do things that break saves, which if IIRC was about allowing us to decorate common spaces or that was an answer I got a few years ago when I mentioned they patched the game to move a trash can in an open space but then I asked something else and they said they couldn't or wouldn't do things that might break saves.
This is TS4, we also never thought they would leave out toddlers at the release or not allow us to build apartments in any world did we? But they did, so it's based on specuation, some knowledge of what came before, what has been and might be, and how players feel about this touchy subject and EP.
Just gaging how others feel as I voted first and I would not buy individual packs with one type of weather only in particular places and not other places such as existing worlds or all new worlds. I would feel that is explotation of the desire to have sunny beaches, snowy mountains and rainy, wet forests.
But if we take them at their word Daniel did say they wouldn't do that....but I never expected I couldn't ever build an apartment in OS, or WC.
And I do remember they said months ago maybe a few years now, if Sims were ever going to swim in the ocean like in WB they would have to build a whole new terrain for that world. Now, do you think they would? I sort of doubt the cost would be worth it. And that possibly could break people's saves to patch in or add something that would change a FX terrain into a workable one, so that is why I asked if people would buy a pack that couldn't have weather in the existing worlds."SerraNolwen;c-16213749" wrote:

The desert actually does get rain it's just not very often you have to dig deep to find water. Way deep.
