I usually play with all of the lights on. I actually don't mind auto lights, I just never remember to turn them on. - Thanks. I wondered what that arrow was for.
- Karababy528 years agoLegendI always set all lights to neutral white or the lightest yellow color and activate auto lights. Yes, it can be annoying having the lights turn on and off constantly, but I've found it lowers your Sims' bills using that feature. If you have a big home with lots of lights on all day and night, it can really rack up the simoleans. o.O
- I usually play with all the lights on because it looks better in my opinion. However, it 'does' lower your bills so if you're playing a game where your character is super poor and you have a lot of lights. Turn them off. Just like in real life.
- I set all lights to white and set auto lights where it makes sense--bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, dining rooms, etc. Basically anywhere you would turn the lights on/off every time you come or go. Also, it's nice to have to bedroom lights turn off when your sim is sleeping.
I usually leave the kitchen/living room on permanently since traffic passes through so often and it gets annoying. - I used to use auto lights but I don't like how the homes look when you're in manage worlds with the lights off. Bit weird, and not very important but it was enough to put me off of using it. If I really want a light off, sometimes I feel weird making my Sim go to bed with her light on, per se, so I'll turn it off and back on when she wakes up. Most times I forget, though.
- I like using the auto lights. I can't stand it when the lights are on all over then house when the sims are asleep.

Is it true that you save money? - I use auto lights, and I like having most of them in the neutral range so that the color palette isn't thrown off. If it's a candle or lantern, I usually do want a bit of a yellow tint to be natural. I don't like having all the lights on when Sims are asleep. I work nights, and have my bedroom as dark as I can. You'd be surprised how hard it is to get the room dark enough when it has a window. I got a nice Velcro-on window cover, but there is an air conditioner in the other side of the window. Light just poured in through it. I finally put dark filters on the vents of it, and it helped quite a bit. Sorry to get off topic, haha. I do use small lamps for some light in the living area, that are on all the time, just like in real life as well. I hate coming home to a dark house. I use those nightlight-like wall lights for the bathroom. I realize that's kinda silly since the light turns on when they walk in. :p
One thing that bugs me about the game's lights, is that they are all on in the day. That seems unnatural for homes. I wish the game ambient light was bright enough indoors during daylight hours so that they could be off, in residences, anyway.
Edit:
Oh, and to answer the question about auto lights saving simoleons, I would guess they save maybe about 10-20%. I haven't noticed it taking a huge chunk out of the Bills.
