Davy Jones's locker is a metaphor for the oceanic abyss, the final resting place of drowned sailors and travellers. It is a euphemism for drowning or shipwrecks in which the sailors' and ships' remains are consigned to the depths of the ocean (to be sent to Davy Jones' Locker).

As for who Davy Jones is, he’s often a malevolent spirit of the sea that is similar to a Devil of the Sea. Stories were spread about him long before anything was written down. There isn’t a clear origin for him. Sailors and Pirates had a tendency to not talk about him because of old superstitions. I guess the combination of tales told by word of mouth instead of getting written down has made exactly who he is a bit of a mystery.

The Duppy in Bantu Mythology seems to pop up across multiple sources. It’s possible that this spirit influenced the depictions of Davy Jones.

Like what @simgirl1010 shared, it’s a good summary, and Davy Jones’ Locker has a lot of connections to Sailors Lost at Sea, the Oceanic Abyss, Sunken Ships, and etc.

If you really want to have an idea of just how dark and creepy this place might be. Look up “Abyssal Plain” or “Deep Sea.”

Aside from the deep sea having a number of strange creatures, it’s also a dark place without any sunlight. Life in these depths can usually be found scavenging on the remains of large sea creatures or around volcanic vents. The environment is a very harsh place.

Anyways, a lot of the actual lore is ambiguous, but considering how Abyssal Plains in the deep sea are like deserts in the darkest depths of the ocean.

I am using it in my story to refer to a kind of purgatory for souls lost at sea and the dwelling place of the most dangerous sea monsters. The Souls lost to Davy Jones Locker would likely wander in the eternally dark depths with nothing but miles of sand beneath the ocean. They would never see the light of day. They’d just wander endlessly in the dark, occasionally finding a sunken shipwreck or the remains of large sea creatures.

It’s a place of death, darkness, sea monsters, and where the souls of those who drown gather. These things are pretty close to what you might actually find in an abyssal plain too. So, I am using real and observable conditions in the sea to inform my depiction of the place.

A Few Extra Details:

Evil Alexander is most definitely going to get Davy Jones’ Curse, but his life state is the most variable thing that makes different things possible for Good Alexander.

Option 1: Evil Alexander Becomes a Cursed Merman
Option 2: Evil Alexander Becomes a Cursed Spellcaster
Option 3: Evil Alexander Becomes a Cursed Ghost

Originally, Evil Alexander was a Spirit that crawled his way out of Davy Jones’ Locker using his connection to Good Alexander.

He’s Currently a powerful Spellcaster in the story.

His final fate kinda is a divide between becoming a Merman, remaining a Spellcaster, or becoming a Ghost… each situation comes with different gameplay mechanics and that’s why each situation will affect the Good Alexander differently.

Good Alexander was reborn as a merman thanks to Arihi’s help. Arihi Zalrian and Calum Zalrian, a mermaid and merman themselves, adopted Alexander Goth after he started his new life as a merman.

Arihi and Calum told their adopted son that he was originally human. However, Calum and Arihi can’t tell him about the Goth Family because they don’t know his human family. The Good Alexander Goth also doesn’t remember his human life because those memories remain with Evil Alexander.

Currently, Good Alexander Goth is the step-son of Arihi and Calum and the older step-brother of the twins, Dylan and Zephyr. Good Alexander Zalrian will permanently be a merman. So, his life state isn’t going to change ever.

Evil Alexander Goth is a shadow of Good Alexander Goth. As I continue to think about the future of my story, I do feel like there is an untold mystery about Alexander’s Past that might require Evil Alexander to remain in the story after his defeat. I mean, a soul doesn’t just get ripped into two halves, good and evil, without a reason.

Edit: I did change the last names of both Alexanders in my game.

Evil Alexander is named Alexander Goth because he’s the one connected to Alexander’s Human Past.

Good Alexander is named Alexander Zalrian, or referred to as Alex, because he’s living a new mermadic life with a new family.
