- anthonydyer8 years agoSeasoned AceI like large homes. Not so much mansions, but I typically build a suburban 4-5 bedroom house with a nice open concept living area and a 2-floor foyer. I like a TV room with vaulted ceilings. I always have at least 2 floors. I don't like small houses... I find those cramped. I do play with walls up, so having open spaces helps to not have a wall in my face. I also prefer not to multipurpose every single space in the house: I have some neutral areas. They typically end up neutral because my builds are always clutter-free. That is me placing my own bias on my sims lol. :)
15x15 or 20x20 lots are a nightmare for me. I typically fill up the whole lot when they are that size. I think the game should have more of a minimum of 20x30.
I don't build too many mansions. I typically end up with so much space that I don't know what to do with it. Feel free to take a look in my gallery as I have uploaded some houses. - See I have tried to build small tiny homes but they always end up being too small for my sims. My sims are a spoiled bunch who likes lavish things lol
- i like small/medium homes but my favorite homes are the apartments in city living. i also have a sim who has a giant mansion and while it's nice and there's lots of space and yard, it takes my sim forever to do different activities because they have to walk a further distance to get to said activity. idk if that makes sense.

They both also came from quite fortunate families (doctors and business men), but that doesnt seem to do much for the next generation in this game. Kind of stupid. I wish i could give them a loan when they move out or split the backaccount or something.
The way I handle this issue, is by giving the kids a bunch of those $15,000 violins in their inventories before moving them out. After the second generation or so I can give all of my Sims good size houses without cheats. - Feisbukaite8 years agoSeasoned AceI like and build 3-6 bedrooms homes for my sims, mostly on 30/20 or 40/30 lots. I also leave space for the nice backyard. So my choice is medium/large, but I don’t like mansions.
- I prefer large single story homes. My current family lives in a single story home on a 40x30 lot. Lots of space for gardening and outdoor activities.
- filipomel8 years agoSeasoned AceSmaller homes are easier to maintain, in Sims and IRL. I’m also not that good at building bigger homes and I only like playing in homes that I’ve built. Plus I feel that homes on the smaller side feel more homey.
- AfterMidnight138 years agoSeasoned NewcomerSmaller homes are cute, but they tend to be impractical for my sims. Large houses are a lot of ground for sims to cover. I like homes that are easy for my sims to get around in, but big enough so that it doesn't feel cramped.
- montello38 years agoNew AceYou probably should have mentioned the lot sizes since "medium" or "small" can be different for everyone
- ariannaneal8 years agoSeasoned AceI chose medium, because I really prefer one story homes, mostly because my game does this weird "flippy" thing on upper stories. Actually, a basement is good for extra room, because the basement and ground floor stay stable. I don't use money cheats, so my families always start off in small two bedroom places. As the family grows, I just add more rooms. So a 30 or 40 lot works best for me.
The other problem with mansions are puppies. Idk if it's just me, but they can't seem to go up stairs.

I love your violin idea! I'll have to try that! Although I don't have that many families with that kind of money laying around, lol
One thing I do to help new families is have my phenomenal painters take some masterpieces over to the new houses, after the family moves in, and leave them there so that the family can sell them. That gets them like $10,000 pretty often, sometimes much more, because a lot of their "paint from reference" paintings go for $3,000 plus
