Leftovers automatically move with your sims I'm pretty sure but for realism yeah you could clear them out beforehand. Cleaning should be a factor too. :D I spent days in RL cleaning the house we moved into before I even bothered with unpacking. So rude and gross to sell or rent out a dirty house to someone.
