Where to hold a grand ball?

Sindocat​ I used the calendar to plan a ball. I never thought of starting a ball from the dance mat. If that option allows to host a ball on the current lot, then maybe I just have to stop planning them in advance. I will try this next time I play. 

I think I travelled to the lot, and was able to begin the event from there. 

EDIT - Yes, I just now ducked back into the save where I built that venue, and took my sim to Newcrest to visit that lot, and he did indeed have the option to start a Grand Ball there by selecting the interaction from the ballroom dance floor itself:

Oh this is a good topic! I would like to build a location for a grand ball as well (or download one from the gallery if I'm not in a mood to build everything from the scratch which might be the case now😅).

I think lounge is the safest option, but I started to think how wonderful a grand ball in a park would be! At least when it doesn't rain 😄 I kind of want to build a park one... and San Myshuno park could be good for that 🤔 I'm not sure whether it will work well though.

crocobaura​ Less distractions does sound better. I think a lounge seems to be the best out of the available options.

Sindocat​ How did you host a ball at that lot? I mean the actual event with goals, not just go there and dance.

I added a generic lot to test this. I added a generic lot with dancefloor, bar, buffet table, music and toilets. The game didn't recognize it. I could use the playground lot right next to it with loads of slides and swings but obviously no dance floor. 😂

There is a fixed list with lots, only the lot types that appear while creating the event can be chosen. Generic lots and wedding venues are excluded. (screenshot is in Dutch but I listed the available lots in the first post)

I built my ballroom as a generic public lot, without requirements, tailoring instead toward assuring I offered facilities for meeting any requirements a grand ball might have as a scored event, e.g. a bar, from which one can get a drink, in addition to suitably housing a ballroom dance floor (medium or large required for the event - petite does not suffice) and then decorating lavishly.

Newcrest is my usual build world, so there it remains, and my sims are able to host grand ball events there. 

If you also wish the same facility to support the functions of a noble court, then it also requires a podium for speeches a throne, and a fencing dummy or two (Royalty & Legacy), and must be placed on a lot in the world where your sims are nobles, in order for them to be able to fulfill all professional obligations there.

Community space only requires the notice board. 
Lounge is a good option and you can use the lot when it's not used to host balls. 
The Von Haunt Estate I think it's a great spot for a ball room. It doesn't look out of place and it gives more use to the building. Same with the San Myshuno park which is already meant for weddings, a ball room would  not look out of place.

Bars and generic lots are not in the drop down menu for available lots when you want to hold a grand ball.

CrispySims619​  I like generic lots because they don't have requirements. If I could use them to host an event , I would. 

 MVWdeZT​Lounges are the lots I use the least in all the game. Somehow a ballroom and a lounge are two completely different places in my head but maybe that's just me.  hiding stuff in the basement is a good idea. I could get rid of the microphone that way.
