Which Story/plot should I follow next

I'm working my way through a personal challenge of creating stories using (as a loose guideline) Christopher Booker's Seven Basic Plots.

I won't go into too many details unless asked, but the relevant parts for this question are that I must use a new Generation for each plot, each generation must move to a new world, and the majority of their story has to take place in that world - with the exception of stories that work best in vacation worlds, or hidden lots attached to that world (such as Realm of magic)

So I've done Rags to Riches (basic Rags to Riches, used Willow Creek) and Voyage and Return (Became a spellcaster and Maxed out magic in Glimmerbrook/Realm of Magic)

I'd planned to take my spellcaster couple, have them have a couple of kids, and then take the eldest to Oasis Springs (probably-might go with Windenberg) and follow "the Quest" in Selvadorada.

Except that I ended up with Triplets. My first in a year of play. This provided new inspiration as I watched them as toddlers, and I thought that using all three in the Comedy plot as a College Rom Com might be interesting, and stretch my storytelling skills a bit.

They just aged up to Children/got makeovers/room redecos as the last thing I did last night, so I don't have any good pictures of them (and I kept forgetting to take pictures when they were toddlers, so I don't have any of all three together.) The eldest of the three is a friendly artsy type with an interest in other cultures, the middle one is a proto-goth gamer, and the youngest (and girl) is an outdoorsy scholar. Or at least that's the way I decorated their rooms.

  • I think if I had triplets, I’d like to follow all of them, so siblings in Britechester would probably be the way I would go. I would pick uni based on what suits their personalities and interests best, regardless of if they ended up on one campus or both. I would factor in that not all need to be making the grade to get in to a distinguished degree though, so that might help keep them all together while still being true to each Sims personality and story.

I evicted the Elderberry and Pleasant houses to turn both those units into boarding houses. You might like to do similar, so the siblings can live together, in Britechester and go to both Foxbury and U Brite.

    Happy Simming however it goes!

My choice has to do with the eldest personality. He's interested in other cultures so he may be perfect to explore Selvadorada.
  • Why not do a separate save for each story you want to follow at a critical point in which you wish to break off your story arc. Then go between each one to see which one you like best. You should be playing your game for you first. When I'm not sure of who I want my sim to be with or what path to follow for my sim I do this to see which one is most interesting and that I truly love best. It might be an equal love of all the saves or just a few. As someone who loves hearing other stories about their sims, I would love to hear how each story is different from each other.
  • Certainly have food for thought already.

Also came up with one more after I'd posted the poll - Follow the Quest but with the youngest in Sulani. So I'll keep that in mind as well.
  • The eldest is always the eldest even in a twin/triplet situation, so to make the choice easier I say to go with the original plan. Or you could let them do an adventure together as a team.
  • I think you should wait and see if one of them matches foxbury better, you never know... maybe even two of them could end up in Foxbury instead of britechester.
  • I play generationally and always go with the oldest, even when they're twins/triplets - but it's hard! For my twins I've started sending them all to university together, so I get a bit more time with all of them, and then I'll play the oldest once they've left and all going on their separate life paths. So you could send them all to Britechester, enjoy their carefree years together having fun, and then follow the oldest to Salvadorada once they've graduated?

Under normal circumstances, sure. But what I'm doing is focusing on a particular story each generation... Generation 1 was a Rags to Riches tale. Generation 2 undertook a voyage into a strange world and came back better for it (like Alice in Wonderland, Narnia, etc.) Generation 3, which is the triplets, will either be a University Comedy Story (and I'm fine with using a looser, more classical definition of Comedy than "funny story") or a Quest to uncover the treasures of Selvadorada. They don't get to do both.

Now, it did occur to me, and what I may do, is have them all go to Uni and do the University Comedy, then when Generation 4 is approaching the end of Teen hood, have "something mysteriously happen" to Dad/Uncle Merlin (that being the eldest) and use that as the hook for Generation 4 to go to Selvadorada. I've done similar things before (like playing Tomax Colette for about a week and a half to get his magic skills where I wanted them to be before his daughter became a teenager and he had to teach her the ways of Magic.) But Merlin's adventure in Selvadorada wouldn't actually be the focus of Generation 3's story, it would just be set up for Generation 4's story.

Believe me, I've already seen plenty of ways I could run this with the same generation covering multiple plots so I could do it in 3-4 generations. Especially as I play on Long life most of the time. But that's not the nature of the challenge I've laid before me.
