I've never been a fan of auto roof, but as long as it can be turned off, I wouldn't mind. I know there are a lot of people who would want it.
My issue with auto roof has always been that it looked unappealing or was applied the wrong way round. Also, I often build dormers and attics - I don't really think that's gonna work with auto roof.
Personally, I like creating roof structures and figuring out how to work around things that aren't really possible in game.
What does bother me about roofing though is the tendency to clip (there are remedies/tricks for that though) and the useless pentagonal and hexagonal roofs. As well as the octagonal roofs not entirely fitting on top of octagonal rooms because the roof has 8 sides that are the same length, but you can't build a room like that because diagonal walls are always longer than straight walls.
