The option is there, but she won't go in. She gets the "can't do that" bubble over her head whenever I ask someone to swim with her. The human will go in the water, but the dog just stands there baffled. She's a beagle. Is it maybe only large dogs that can swim? It's also impossible to take a dog for a walk on small islands. The family lives on that tiny island near the volcano and nothing happens when I ask somebody to take the dog for a walk. I did build a house that there takes up most of the space of the island, so a smaller house might allow dog walking.But the swimming is really bothering me! The only reason I got these people a dog was to see it swim in the ocean, and now it won't.

I think some dogs are afraid of water. The dogs I have in my current household will swim in the ocean but my previous household, they would not go in. I think I saw someone mention something about some dogs being hydrophobic.

They can swim in the ocean; mine was doing it yesterday. I don't have any idea what might be preventing the OP's dog, though.

Is the terrain too steep? My toddler had an issue entering the water at one point -- I had to find the exact right spot (a very gentle slope) before she could do it.

Oh thank goodness. I haven't tried playing with pets or toddlers yet, I'm having a lot of fun just exploring the mermaid bits and new career options. It would have seemed a very odd thing to leave out.

I've tried it with the same dog on two different lots so far. I'll keep trying, and also take the dog to a pool to make sure she can swim there.
