You can add more with cheats but I suppose there has to be a "limit" somewhere. I quite liked the sims 3 way of doing it where you choose 5 and it suggests aspirations based on that.
I prefer having five trait slots. That way you can use three decent traits and two bad traits. We all have our 'weaknesses'. In order to make a strong and interesting character in storytelling, they have to have a weakness or foible, as some call it. - Beardedgeek725 years agoSeasoned AceThe problem is that the traits do not make enough difference, not that there are too few slots for them.
- DeKaythePUNK5 years agoLegendCuz the traits don't matter. ?
- alan6505 years agoSeasoned AceThe number one problem with traits has been mentioned repeatedly here. They simply aren't strong enough! Jealous is the one that comes to mind as one that really is strong but I don't understand why they made that one so strong and the others are so weak. We need a big update that modifies all the existing traits to be stronger AND to give us a huge new addition of strong traits of varying kinds. The update also needs to let us add up to 5 traits. That way people can still only stick to 3 traits if they still want to. We also need a "likes/dislikes" system. For example, you give your sim 3 likes in CAS and that sim will often do that action/activity autonomously and perhaps get a small positive moodlet from it. The 3 dislikes they would never do autonomously and if you made that sim do it they would get a small negative buff and react like they don't like it or are bored.

3 works fine for me. Though maybe 4 at Adult, would be cool. Maybe a 5th at Elder that has to be a 'negative' one. Like 'hates children'.
"Them dang youngings! Don't know anything!" :D
There are a whole bunch of reward traits you can get for the Sim, so that's a huge amount of traits you can get if you want.
I add reward traits like that. A 4th one when my sims become adult and a 5th one when they become elder. I think of it as they're getting experience in life and becoming better at something as they age. - Loanet5 years agoSeasoned AceThe traits have surprisingly little effect on a character, apart from a mild influence on what makes a Sim happier, or perhaps bonuses like being able to eat rotten food.
There's only so many traits that it's even WORTH having. I think it would be better to fine-tune the effects that Traits have rather than having to add the ability to have more traits. - My sim currently has 105 traits and he's not even finished with this. You can earn so many traits from the challenges and stuff.

What?!!!????? - Because everything in Sims 4 (ok, to be fair not everything but almost) is a mayor setback. Sims 3 was so much better. Idk maybe they scaled everything down including gameplay and traits in attempt to make it more stable and playable on low end computers? i don't see any performance gains on ts4 compared to ts3 though and I haf a ton more stuff on ts3.
- The first thing I do once I move a new sim into the world is to use cheats to give them reward traits and also give them certain skill levels I think that would have given their age and personality. I also really like using cc traits.
