- HermitgirlNew SpectatorThey don't break up autonomously unless you have some mod installed for that. You the player make the decision for them to break up or not. The possibilities of course crop up when they take a bad enough hit to the relationship. I personally wouldn't like for my sims to autonomously break up or worse yet walk off lot and out of the game forever.
- I think it depends sim to sim. My sims tend to react more strongly than I've heard from other simmers. My sim's husband once flirted with her cousin and they lost half their romance bar.
- GalacticGalSeasoned AceBefore the Jealous Trait was patched in, I had a very young couple, newlyweds, who took a little walk over to a small picnic area. He had the Friend of the World aspiration and needed to meet x amount of people. Since there were others sitting at the picnic table, I thought this was a good idea. Well, while I did have him introduce himself a few times, unbeknownst to me, his little wife was having problems with Bob Pancake. Pancake apparently made a pass at her. I noticed when she suddenly had red negative signs floated above her. Suddenly, her husband was irate, and wondering just how long his wife and this fella had been carrying on behind his back. I was seriously afraid he'd die of anger, so I had her sit down next to him at the table and chat him up, effectively 'talking him off of the wall'. Phew! I can see that had I not 'stepped' in, so to speak, this scenario would have had a very unhappy ending. Either with death or a bitter break-up.
This is my only experience with such a close call. - I miss the reaction like in Sims 2. They would lose it on the other sim and even the sim they cheated with, So funny. Sims 4 lacks the anonymous reactions. Even Sims 3 had them.

Sims 2 was along the opposite extreme, though. My legacy heir and his fiancee were in college, and the evil cow mascot flirted with him in front of her. So she was furious with him for days. Ever since then I locked out all NPCs when my sims went to college.
Sims 4 could use more emotions, true, but I like how the reaction is somewhat proportionate to what was done. Like there's a separate moodlet for a flirting spouse, compared to more serious acts of infidelity. - I hate how they only get a moodlet, it would be much more realistic if they broke up with them, kicked them out, fought them, etc. I don't know, I just feel like there are zero consequences when it comes to cheating when there should be,
- Winifred_WillowNew SpectatorI've tried "pushing the issue" to see what would happen and unfortunately I just get the usual angry moodlet and a small hit on the relationship bars. I do wish these reactions to wayward spouses and SOs would be tweaked better. I wish there were repercussions and consequences for these actions. The jealous trait is the only one that has any reaction in my game but they react to any social interaction so it can be bothersome in group settings.
- When I first got TS4 and made my first family, my Sim died because she caught her husband cheating on her with Don Lothario. She had the jealous trait.
That's the ultimate break up
But yeah none of my Sims have kicked their partners out on TS4 when they have cheated on them(which happens pretty often in my game because drama is the best). - MidnightAura86New SpectatorIf your sim has the jealous trait they will probably slap their partner. But that's all, they don't break up. They may get an angry moodlet.
A non jealous sim will not react any further than a sad or angry moodlet if they get one. - They get angry and the caught sim gets embarrassed. If they're married the option to divorce comes up but they won't break up themselves, they don't even interact. My sim was angry for a good 24 sim hours and sad for a few days because I had them divorce.
