Will skill levels transfer over whenever sims are aged up? (help needed)

Cause, I think I'm getting to the point where I think I wanna age up the whole Stein family. But I'm scared if that would damage the skills I'm having the family members slowly build on. I don't want to start back at square one after they all age up. And it's the boring skills, where they have to do an activity for a long time to make any progress and that gets SUPER boring! I'm trying not to use cheats on their skill levels, but I'm tempted to for it taking so LONG! Charisma, fitness, cooking, mixing, and so on and so forth skills that are taking forever with.

Also, how can I tell what Patron of the Arts level a sim is at? Mr.Stein (dad/father) has gotten there and I'm curious if I can check on his level at his work so I can try to get him to finish that branch of career sooner.

I'm still unsure if I want to age the family up or not. It's a full house, so I can't add another to the family lol. I'm so unsure if I'm ready to try to clear the household out yet. Also when sims split from home, does that met they become npcs and I don't control their lives anymore? Cause I think I'd like that so I didn't have to watch over several households whenever I finally decide they need to leave for their own houses.

Please be kind and give me advice. Olivia, Ben, Audrey & Aiden, and Niffty are all teens, their parents are adults now. I think their age bars were all around the middle when I checked last time. This is exciting but also nervous time for me cause this'll be the first sim family I had played through! So I'm not sure if I'm ready yet. So please be kind and give me some advice.

  • With the exception of Toddlers and Children, any skills a sim currently has will stay with them as they age up to the next age level.
Toddler skill will not carry over, and the same for Children unless they have already gained all 10 of the Child Skills and have started on the skills Teens have.

Here is more information on Toddler and Children skills.

    Movement, Communication, Thinking, Creativity, Potty

Child Skills - This one goes more into detail on what adult skills they can learn and when. - https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/parenting/children.php
Children have 4 Skills that they need to learn if they gain all 10 skills they can start, those adult skills that will carry over.
Mental - Fishing, Logic, Video, Gaming
    Social - Charisma, Mischief
    Creativity - Piano, Violin
    Motor - None
Children can learn right away the Vampire Lore Skill by reading the book.

    Thanks!
  • I would like to add that toddler skills can give you a head start in some child skills, even if they don't carry over directly. If your toddler reaches level 5 in movement, communication, thinking or imagination your child will get level two in the corresponding child skill (motor, social, mental and creativity)

    Cool thanks
  • You can find a sim's job level by going to the Careers panel. Hover your cursor over the job icon at the top left corner. The tooltip will tell you the sim's level.

The best thing to do, when you aren't sure whether to do something, is save the game first and then try it. If you don't like the results, you can just go back to the Main Menu without saving.
  • When you move Sims out, you can choose to play them in their own household, or mark the household as unplayed, in which case they will become like NPCs. There's a plumbob you can click on their family portrait in the household management screen if you want to do that. You can also just leave them marked as played; it sounds like you have aging off, so unless you have aging on for unplayed Sims the effect would be pretty much the same.

Thanks so much! I'm glad to know I can mark them as unplayed cause I don't wanna get overwhelmed with more than one household. :3 Thanks for telling how to do it too  I believe I have the whole sim world to age, including my family and npcs. :3
