Your Collector Sim's Private Museum

So I built a private museum for everyone's collectors to use. It has a tiny, live-in apartment upstairs for those that wish to convert it into a home.

So, collectors! Empty out those overloaded inventories and start displaying your hoarding proudly! :D <3 I give you, your own private museum!

Also, if you have the old version that I made, please delete it and re-download this version, it's the completely finished version that can hold all collections.

Origin ID is DarciTheFox and the building is titled "Private Museum"

Also, all collectibles in pictures have been removed to make way for yours. I'll give you the tour.

OLD POST BELOW, Above is updated tour of the finished museum. But, a lot of these pictures are still what it looks like and some notes while I was play-testing it, so please do peruse! I've just put the updated versions of those pictures above, just the finished touches.

It works! You can put your items inside the building and leave it there and no one will take it, just keep the lot type to generic and that should keep it private.

There's space out back for a garden collection.

Here's the frog & fish collection room, I tried to make it outdoorsy, and took out those ridiculous fish fountains. Feel free to remodel the entire inside of this building if you like.

The Top Floor Layout, those three connected rooms are for Fossils/Microscope Prints/Space Prints/Aliens & Space Rocks. The area near the apartment is for your most prized collectibles, that's why it looks all fancy there:

The lower floor has the Frog & Fish collection room and the Crystals/Minerals/Elements room, it's a bit small, but it's got a lot of shelving. Then there's some open space for whatever you decide.

Ok! So, I tested this with my sim Bob Builder, lol I randomized him in CAS and he came with no shirt, lol. The small apartment upstairs works just fine.

It's been AMAZING, I changed the lot from Museum to Generic and not ONE sim has stepped foot into my private museum since then and I've had Bob Builder living there for about a sim week.

It's perfect, sims just walk by and don't enter the building or even come on the lot! YAY! Private museums for all us collectors! No more inventories full of everything!

I've been play testing the museum to see how everything would work. I made this area out back for a garden collection.

I tested planting things to see if you could plant on a generic lot and you can, but for some reason apples won't stick, you can plant them, but they disappear as soon as your sim stands up. Everything else plants just fine, but you'll have to tend them like normal.

You DON'T however have to feed the frogs or care for the frogs! I fixed up a frog/fish collection room and took out those dumb fountains I had in there for the museum requirement. There's now enough room in the room for the entire frog and fish collection in game.

I have a room in the museum for every collection in game and the big white room on the first floor is all for sculptures and displaying paintings on the walls, there's also a workshop. The layout has been edited a bit and become more organized and better since I first posted, so some of the rooms have changed a little, but for the better, I hope. :D

    If you take a Sim to a community lot and enter Build/Buy mode, the inventory isn't available (you can't open it), so I don't think your idea would work. Nice thought though. Because most of the items have the emotional auras that you can activate (the crystals have energy, the photos focused, the MySims playful) it's better to have a few scattered around various rooms anyway.

    Oh that's a bummer. I was really hoping I could make a nice building that would house my whole collection so I could go over there and look at it all put together.

    Well, maybe I could build it and then save it, then once that's done I'll send my sim over there in live mode and just put the stuff up on the shelves, maybe that would work? I think you can put paintings up in the art museum if they're in your inventory in live mode, but I'm not sure. I'm going to test this out with a small building later today, I think.

    This is an interesting idea and I'm hoping I can find some way to work around it and make it happen. lol.

    Would it be possible to change the lot type when you want to add items to it, and then change it back to a community lot?

    I'd love to be able to take items to public lots, but I can see how collectibles could cause gameplay issues in the long run. As it is now. I generally just build a shed-type outbuilding to house objects. Or I create an Attic-style room.

    Try a general lot. Doubt it will work, but worth a shot. I know I can't drop things off at other sims homes, which really irks me because there's no 'give gift' option.

    I was thinking I liked the chests from WA. The only other thing I can think of would be to wait for an OFB type EP where we can purchase a public lot. But they really need to bring back the ability to give items in your inventory to other sims for that to work. That way, you could give the item to the owner of the lot. Then have the owner display them. Then again, this might not work as intended. Having collectibles on a public lot would basically make every sim that visits that lot count those as collected, if I'm understanding how things work at the present moment. I could be wrong.

    I say build your museum anyway. Upload it. Many will enjoy it :) You could even try the buydebug cheat to add the collectibles to it. Not sure if they'd stick with the lot though. I know harvestables don't.

    I like the idea. Just don't think there's a way for it to work with the game in its present state.

    Just so that I understand, you place this building on an empty lot, and your Sim just goes there and places his collections on display? He didn't need to buy the house and has a private address somewhere else? And he also can stay in the private museum if he wants to do that too?

    I think you just found an amazing loophole/alternative to 'free real estate', if that's the case.

    I love the new pictures, weird about the apples.

    Yes, place the building on an empty lot, but make sure that the lot type is generic, otherwise you're going to have A LOT of annoying sims coming into your private museum and possibly running off with your collectibles. So, make sure the lot type is set to generic, but it should already be, that's how I uploaded it. It will be private and the public will keep out that way. Only your sim and sims that they bring with them will come onto the lot. (The family could even come and visit the museum, or if you have a large family use it as a home away from home to take your creative sims for some peace and quiet to do their skills.) And no, he didn't need to buy it. Which is nice, but I will be deducting the cost of the museum from my sim's household funds when she is rich enough to have the museum so that I can feel like she actually bought the building, lol. (Just for my game.) But, you don't have to buy it and it will be private.

    It is finished (But could be edited if you don't like the layout.) and ready for your sim's collectibles. You just take your sim there by traveling from home/wherever and make sure they have their collectibles in their PERSONAL inventory and not the family inventory, from there just go to the museum and hang your collectibles up on the wall or put them on shelves.

    My sim has a private home address, this is a public lot and so my sim does not officially live at the museum, but yes your sim can live on the public lot and I have built a micro apartment upstairs for sims that want to stay in their museum/studio for extended periods of time. My sim lived in the museum for a full sim week and a half before going home again and could have stayed there indefinitely if he chose. I will even be adding a computer to the lot to test and see if sims can pay their bills from the museum instead of having to go home to pay their bills.

    Yeah, it's GREAT! I've always loved being able to own multiple private homes and community lots, so I was looking for something that I could use like this, I think I've found it! :D

    So, I made this museum into my sim's private museum/studio. :D

    And yeah, I don't get them apples. They're weird and won't stay planted! Lol, everything else worked just fine!

    I think this is awesome.
    Finally someone who went and did something totally unique and new with TS4, instead of looking for plum. Great stuff! Thanks for explaining how to use the house, Darci.
