Your thoughts on the current memory system?

How many people use this system, i am really curious to know. I think it has great potential! The way it works is that you take a screenshot of the moment you want to turn into a memory and then your sims can remember it and their mood gets affected by the mood the memory has. It is great in theory but i think i would like a way for sims to recall these memories by themselves without my directing them. Maybe it works like that but i havent noticed, does anyone know for sure?

I also kinda want memorie's mood effects to be a little stronger, i made my sim recall a sad memory but she was still very happy because she had three happy moodlets and they narurally overpowered that one sad moodlet. Yes it makes more sense for her to be happy in this senario but i would have loved if the memories had stronger mood effects even if just for a short while to make them more noticable.

What do you think about this system? Do you like it and make use of it? and how would you improve it?

Exactly! It is why i am asking it becomes the way you suggested too. I dont mind having control over it but the game should not leave all of it to me, imo.

Also, so many sarcastic comments, guys XD I get what you all mean that it is not a real memory system as it stands and i agree, but i am saying it can become more like one with tweaks.
  • I don't use it as it doesn't feel as natural or impactful as memories in the Sims 2.

In the Sims 2, sims thought of memories (both randomly and when sleeping), and would also cry about recent bad memories.sims also would talk about them or gossip about memories to other sims.

In the Sims 2, it is just a buff that gets added to the player, which would be fine if the game randomly has Sims remember these events and apply the buff. As of now, it is all user generated which takes the run out of it.

One example of memories in the Sims 4 I kind of like is the ones from slice of life mod where the game tells you they will remember this event and they occasionally get a buff about recent big memories like first kiss, peed self, and more.

I use the memory system with both screenshots and journal entries (I heard you can reminisce with the rocking chair too, but I don't have the Knitting pack yet). I have the Meaningful Stories mod installed so usually they are feeling the right emotions at the time I take the photo/write in journal. Sometimes my sims will "Auto Reminisce" and put themselves in a good/bad mood, which makes gameplay more interesting for me.

@MLadyAzzera Oh, that sounds interesting indeed and one of the things i said i wanted to happen in my op. Is this because of the mod or is it a mechanic in-game too? i haven't noticed anything like it in my game yet.

I think it's random and based on how many memories they have stored (at least this is my best theory). My journaling Sims sometimes randomly go through their journals if they had used it often when they were younger, and I haven't seen it lately, but elder sims would remember a photo if I had tagged a lot of them. I wonder if there is a mod to increase this?

I often trigger the journal one just bc I'm impatient lol.
  • I just wish the Auto-reminisce system would actually tell you which memory made the Sim sad, angry, happy or whatever.
I remember in the Sims 2 when a Sim started crying because they remembered something, it would usually show in a thought bubble what memory triggered the crying.
Same happened when the Sims were angry at another Sim. When they did that angry stomp and face the thought bubble would show you which Sim they are mad at.

I tried to use it when they first implemented it. (pictures). lol It was ok to make some Sims mad all the time, but it's no more than a mood emitter is it. I mean my Sim doesn't have any idea what they are looking at, do they? Do they know that is their long lost love in that painting?

It's nothing more than mood emitters and from what I read recently it has been broken for a very long time.

Jupp, there is no knowledge of what made the sim feel that way.

If there is an automatic-feature I would be interested in it as a way to introduce some negative moods for some of my sims.

I tried it when it came out as well and I have no interest in it if it is just me handing out a moodlet. If the game does it there is some surprise in it.

I agree I would use it also if the game gave the moodlet not me
