@iJDanielle93 When you created a new Sims 4 user folder, did you test without adding any of your existing content to the new folder? I'd like to know whether the game crashed with none of your old content—saves, mods or cc, whatever—at all.
If the game did still crash, or you test that now and it does, please try moving Sims 4 to your internal drive. I understand why you'd want to store it externally in general, and you can go back to that if moving it doesn't help, but this is the fastest way to find out whether the issue is something about your external drive or its connection. And you do have the free space to accommodate Sims 4, so you shouldn't see any storage-related issues while testing. You can right-click on the Sims 4 icon in your Origin game library and select Move Game, then pick the folder you want. Once you've moved the game, right-click and select Repair before playing.
Thank you @puzzlezaddict and @DaLegendOfKike for the recommendations!
It turns out that after I sent my previous reply that there were a couple of other issues going on with my system, and I had to perform a soft reset. I have no clue what the exact cause of my game crashing may have been, but the reset seems to have worked so far. I'll let y'all know if anything else comes up.
Thanks again!! 😃
