I've been doing a lot of testing yesterday and yet haven't been able to duplicate. The same cc that causes issue for someone else works fine for me.
So far it doesn't look like any particular cc is broken so if you haven't added anything new, the ones you have should still work. Something is making the game crash and it's still unclear what that is.
Unfortunately, the Failed to Launch Message is very generic and basically just means that the game crashed while trying to load the game. There can be a lot of reasons for that and I don't believe everyone in this thread has the same issue.
To help figure this out (especially because it is so random), it's important to distinguish between issues.
When should you post in this thread ?
- You get the Failed to Launch Messagr --> If you do not have this message and the game loads but you have issues later on, create your own thread or check for other threads that could fit. Do mention exactly what happens and post pics so your thread doesn't get re-merged.
- You removed all mods and just have this with CC.
- You tried a clean folder: 📓[GUIDE] Clean User Folder Approach | EA Forums - 12690428 and it worked without anything --> Create your own thread in The Sims 4 Gameplay Questions & Issues | EA Forums if you continue to have issues on a vanilla game.
- You have deleted all LastCrash and LastException file and the game creates a LastCrash file that says Modded: False at the end despite you having cc in your game but no LastException (you can find this files in your documents folder) --> If you get a LastException file, your issue is probably caused by some specific cc. Check Broken and Updated Sims 4 Mods and CC: patch 1.122, March 17, 2026 and create your own thread if you can't figure it out
A few suggestions that have been floating around
Some eyelashes are broken. Remove them.
- Try deleting the resource.cfg file in your mods folder and then restart ea app and the game. A new file will be recreated
- Clear EA app cache: Menu > Help > App recovery
- Delete these files in documents: localthumbcache.package and accountDataDB.package
- Fully restart your PC and check for any updates to the EA app. (make sure you have Menu > Application > Install automatic updates turned on, do a PC restart again if it was turned off)
Try the 50/50 Method to check if it's a specific file for you. If it starts to become random what works, you can stop. Going to cross this out as for probably 99% of folks that have it happen with just cc, this doesn't help. This doesn't mean that all cc is free of issues.
- If you have any packs disabled in Steam or EA app, remove that line. This is currently not working and may cause issues.
- For PC: Create a new local windows user and check if it works there. Just copy the cc in the new user folder created for the new windows user.
- Some CC seems to conflict and it works if you have them in different folders but not if they are in the same sub-folder
- Don't bother reinstalling the game. That doesn't work but do try a game repair/verify files on EA app/Steam
- Start EA app in admin mode and then start the game through EA app
If you are using a mod manager (like TSR Manager or others), please uninstall that and then try a fresh folder (instructions see above) with just your cc put back.
A few info you can provide when posting
- Are you on PC or Mac ?
- Are you on Steam. Epic or EA app ?
- For PC: Are you using DX9 or DX11 ?
- For PC: Are you using MemoryBoost (it's only active if it's set to enabled)
- Have you bought and downloaded anything from the marketplace (including the free kit)
- Are you using oneDrive/iCloud ?
- Do you have your documents folder on an external or internal drive (if you don't know how to do that, you have it on your internal in the default place)
- Does it work with newly downloaded CC ?
