How can I make sure the CC/Mods I downloaded don't break after a patch?

I have been cautious about downloading mods or CC due to them breaking. How can I save the mods and CC I have so they don't break?

  • Mods & CC are destined to break after major game updates, which is one downside of using them. If you want to avoid this, create a folder on your desktop, move all mods, and CC to that folder, update the game, go into the game, and click "allow mods", then move all mods and CC back to your mod folder. When you start up the game the mods and CC should be good. I'm not sure how often you check for mod updates, but be sure to check on that later today or sometime this week.

  • There are a few things to do to prevent that.

    1. First, and most important, before downloading a new patch, remove your mods-folder from the game (just move it elsewhere for a few days)
    2. Second, keep an eye on Luthienrising's posts here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mods-CC-Issues/bd-p/the-sims-4-game-issues-mods-en - and keep an eye out for your mods and cc and/or their maker.
    3. If a mod or cc is updated, remove the old file and download the new updated file before using the mod again

    In general:

    • CC rarely breaks, unless new functions or animations are added to a particular type of object. In general it's usually safe and requires very little maintenance.
    • MODS however break more often, how often depends on what type it is. I have mods I've never updated, while some break every single time there is a patch without fail and needs to be updated each and every time. You learn quickly which ones that is and if you want, it's easy to limit those to the ones you find important.
    • Many modders are very good at updating their mods quickly so it's not a major thing, especially if you have few mods and choose them carefully.
  • luthienrising  is right! The others clearly don't know how game updates and computers work, sorry but I cant put it any nicer than that. Also luthienrising  does a forum page every major update where they collect information on broken and obsolete mods/cc and does an excellent job of keeping it updated and keeping people in the know. Just google it or click on their profile, should be an easy find.

There is also scarlets realm's mod list that functions the same however they are not limited by what a forum can and can not do also has search functions and better user interface. Link: -> https://scarletsrealm.com/the-mod-list-sfw-only-edition/

Personally I recommend not updating your game for a few days then updating them and the game when you see fit. Tad annoying to deal with but that is sims 4 in a nutshell.
