My mods/CC are no longer showing up in game after MWS update

Yes, mods are enabled in game.

I have a large mods/CC folder (only two subfolders: a testing folder and an everything else folder. No deeper folders than that) that I have used without problems for years. Everything is up to date - I am very diligent about this after every update. I have never had any problems until this past MWS update (the one prior to the patch). Now my game no longer recognises that I have a mods folder. At this point, I have tried everything. I turned on the mods notification to check whether things were working and it has not popped up once while I've been trying to fix it.

I moved the folder to my desktop and back and nothing. I have removed the subfolders, nothing. I have checked the pathway and it is still the exact same pathway that it has ever been in my documents; it has not suddenly changed nor have I put mods in the wrong place. I created a new, empty mods folder (in the correct place, using the correct pathway) and moved my full mods folder to my desktop again. The game will not generate a resource.cfg file in this new mods folder. There is no resource.cfg in my old folder. It just will not create a replacement, even after going into the game.

I have tried everything that has been recommended elsewhere on the internet and on this forum. None of them have worked/are applicable to my situation. I am not new to mods - I have been playing the Sims with mods since TS2 and been playing since the beginning of TS4 with mods. This is beyond anything I know how to fix or have experienced before and is extremely frustrating.

I would attach pictures but I truly don't know what to screenshot at this point: I have checked everything myself, I don't know what a picture showing both the pathways match or that my mod folder was made correctly would do.

  • @banana_munchkin  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, launch the game to create a new folder, enable mods and custom content in the game options, and quit.  Does this create a new Mods folder with a new resource.cfg inside?  If so, you can move a few of your mods to the new folder and test.  You  can also move your saves and anything else you want to keep to the new folder, but leave that until you've sorted out your mods and custom content.

If you don't see a new Mods folder or it doesn't have a resource.cfg inside, please try the recommendations in the first post of this thread:

  • @puzzlezaddict Thank you! I had to make TS4 an allowed app. I had no idea this was something I had to do or would change - it had been fine up until this point and then literally overnight stopped working. Thank you ever so much! I never would've worked this out.
