New CC Has Not Appeared In-Game Since 2018

Hi all, sorry if this is in the wrong place. The help center didn't seem to be the right place for this as they'd likely just say "EA doesn't take responsibility for the function of mods." or I'd get a bunch of generic responses like "did you tick the box to allow CC after updating?". I'd greatly appreciate any help I can get as I'm starting to make my own CC and it'll be kind of difficult if I can't even test my own items in-game.

To start, I'll say I don't have any mods that change game mechanics. It is 99% custom content for clothing, hair, and makeup, with a couple wallpapers, and a handful of custom traits. That's it. I have gone on 3 CC shopping sprees since the last time I added CC that worked, and that was on the 21st of July, in 2018. After that, anything I download doesn't appear in game. Out of the 380 pieces of CC in my folder, the first 266 are the only ones that work. I keep my game patched and current, and I can't fathom why it seems that after a certain point no CC is registering in my game. If I sort my Mods folder by date I can pinpoint just about where I last did a successful haul as those items show up in CAS, but after that point I realize "I've never seen any of this." I don't often add CC, but when I do it's a lot of stuff, and usually on the same day, so there's chunks of CC added on one day, then another. Usually with a couple months spanning between. Because of this I can easily recognize a point in time when CC just seemed to stop loading into CAS.

I don't think it would be broken CC because a lot of the CC I have that DOES work is a little under 2 years old if not older. But every single new piece of CC I download, whether it's hair, makeup, or skin overlays, no longer shows up in-game. Yes, I have the CC and Script Mods box checked. That's literally the first thing I do every time there is a patch. I have cleared my cache as some people say to do, and in this time I have even moved to a new computer, so the game has since been freshly installed on a new hard-drive. This problem began before I moved computers, and has persisted on the new computer.

The only thing I can even begin to think that may be causing this is some kind of compatibility bug between the packs that I own, and I don't even know if that could happen, but TS4 is a big game with a lot of packs, and bugs resulting in two packs' incompatibility do happen. That said I own all expansion packs except for Island Living. As for other packs I own Parenthood, Dine Out, Spa Day, Outdoor Retreat, and Movie Hangout. I doubt this is really what's causing my problem but you never know.

So yeah, I'm kinda desperate at this point to get this figured out and I'd really appreciate any help I can get with this. It's such an odd problem that I haven't seen anyone else having.
  • Custom traits break quite frequently, try removing them if you can. What happens if you remove the working CC and leave the rest? You may need to go through the not working CC in small batches to see if you can find the problem but, I would start with traits. This is a very unusual problem.
  • To be honest, I have no idea why your new CC isn't working, I'm just going by process of elimination.
  • Unfortunately there are a great many reasons it isn't working. Bad CC, recolor CC's without meshes, CC replacements/recolors of game pack items you haven't purchased, bad resource.cfg setup, not to mention operating system problems.

    Could also be just that the CC isn't tagged properly. Unfortunately that's the EXTREME majority of CC. It's a shame that with the hundreds of thousands of CC items on the net, the number of CC items that are actually configured properly wouldn't even break 2 digits. Hardly anyone making CC actually knows how to do it properly.

    For example: If you're looking for a shirt (in cas), you click on "Everyday" and it shows you a bunch of shirts. Those are shirts that are tagged for "Everyday". If a shirt isn't tagged for everyday, it won't show up there. I've seen a GREAT MANY items downloaded from the major sites like MTS/TSR/etc that have NO tags at all. You click through everyday, sleepwear, formal, etc. It won't appear anywhere. The only way you can see it is to remove the filter at the top and look at everything. It'll likely be there. Try that.

    Could also be one single corrupted package is stopping the game from reading anything further. Try taking everything out and putting a few back at a time.

    I'd also try the standard stuff: Remove your cache files, do an origin game repair, etc.

    Can broken CC and traits result in no new CC working? I'll give it a shot regardless, I'm just curious. I'm also afraid if I remove the working CC then I'll have no CC ^^;

    I'll try removing the traits and check back in.
