Re: The Sims 4 gallery corrupted

@bra0ok ... Did you try the directions for testing them that @JonaO703 shared in the spoiler tag in the comment above?

  • @SheriGR I did, I no longer have this issue. I found out how to fix it somewhere else, but I was so angry and frustrated that I don't even remember what I did xD

Now my issue lies in Sims 4 saving to User - Public instead of User - <my name> 🙂) trying to find out how to fix it, but only one that asked about it, that I can find anyway, was back in 2012 so I highly doubt it'll help at all.

@bra0ok Please see the information that @puzzlezaddict  posted below. Sorry for any confusion. Hmmm... well, I am on Mac, so still using Origin for now (though there ias a notice this will change). In is case there is a setting in Origin that shows the path where it saves to.

First, before doing any experiments with this I would highly recommend making and storing a backup as follows:

    Spoiler
    Go to:
    Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4
    Copy the following folders:
Saves, Tray, Mods, Screenshots, Recorded Video
    Paste the folders:
Paste the folders locally on your computer, on an external drive, &/or a flash drive. I recommend choosing two or all three of these locations.)

Alternatively, you could just save the whole 'The Sims 4' folder.

In my case, if I open Origin > Preferences > Installs & Saves, these are the paths I find:

I can also confirm the path of my folder (for my game folder for saved info, etc.... in this case specifically for the  'saves' folder within it that 'The Sims 4' folder) by opening the game,  chose 'Load Game', click on one of the game saves, then hover over the round button with the two overlapping rectangles (however I cannot make changes to the path there):

  • Well, I'm on Windows so I use the EA app. However, everything you said are things that I've already tried multiple times before.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that not too long ago, I quit backing up to OneDrive so everything was wiped. I had to manually go in to the system and get control over my desktop and files, then to OneDrive web and download what I had there. Still lost quite a bit, including cc. I'm thinking that during this process, when OneDrive backed everything, including all files from C: Users - <my name> . So when I then deleted OneDrive, it took all the files, leaving Sims 4 nowhere to save but the Public folder.

I've tried finding out how to make it save where I want it to, but nothing so far has worked. If it does work, it's only for a second, or until I launch the game again, and it's back to Public. Issue here being that everything else I do on my PC is saved to my user folder, as well as everything I download. It's just too tedious to download, open file explorer, open new tab and find Public, then move them there.

TSR CC Manager can't find anything either since everything is wrong, and manually searching for Public doesn't work either.

I'm just so lost at this point that I'm honestly considering just wiping my whole PC and try again from factory new. Worst case is that I mess up even more and have to stop playing the game all together, which I really wish wasn't an option.

  • @bra0ok  Sims 4 uses the folder that Windows has designated for the Documents directory.  If the game can't access that folder, sometimes it doesn't start, and sometimes it uses the Public folder instead.  So if you got rid of OneDrive but the Documents directory is still inside the OneDrive folder, that would explain the problem.

At any rate, here's how to force Windows to use the location you want for Documents, regardless of your current setup:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/operation-to-change-a-personal-folder-location-fails-in-windows-ffb95139-6dbb-821d-27ec-62c9aaccd720

To be clear, you'll want to set the Personal value to the default of %USERPROFILE%\Documents , as described.  Then Sims 4 should use C:\Users\your username\Documents as well.

The only way to currently change the Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 folder location which contains saves etc is by creating a symbolic link.

Your Origin screenshot shows the game installation location which can easily be changed. This has no effect whatsoever on the aforementioned Sims 4 folder.
