I haven’t seen anyone on this board, Reddit or Twitter have any lasting success with the audio work around. I can say personally that it made no difference at all when I attempted to start up the game yet again yesterday.
I've been able to play without any crashing at all, plus less lag, after disabling all the sound options. I also unchecked all the radio songs except one in each genre (which I'm not sure has any real impact but maybe it lightens the load). I only have 2 save files and I think I'm down to 9 custom Sims (including a couple mermaids)... something very small; but a lot of expansion packs installed. I'm disconnected from pretty much every internet or sharing option I can be (which I already was), plus I don't have many games loaded on my console (so I have plenty of space, but I guess that's more on the side of save space and not the RAM).
Important(?) note: I have cheats enabled, so this disables my ability to gain trophies. One might think cheats enabled would make it worse, but it probably makes things better because it's tallying one less thing during gameplay.
No issues for me:
- Gameplay around the house (though I did notice some strange new things, like the TV wouldn't play certain channels... just a black screen)
- Traveling anywhere, including the festivals, which made things insta-crash before the sound trick
- Going in and out of build mode
- Gaining sentiments (new with the patch) -- kinda cute, but not worth the crashing and silence
I haven't tried constructing a house or spending an extended period of time in build mode, throwing a party, or doing some things to really try to break the system.
Edit: I also have aging turned off for all Sims. Has anyone considered that yet? I know the bug is sound-related but there must be some combination of other elements that make it work for me with the sound disabled.
