I don't know if I'm just being dumb or what, but I'm trying to get the photography skill. I've taken a photo with the camera, I've taken a selfie on my phone, and I've used the flash set up with the lights etc. yet the skill still hasn't appeared in my skills list.
Is there something you have to do to initiate it or is this a bug?

That sounds very much like a bug. Typically the two ways to increase your photography skill is by taking selfies or using a camera.
You might try some basic trouble shooting like restarting the game, restarting the device your playing on, etc. I hope this helps. 🙂
If you can, try buying a book and getting the skill that way and see if after you can level photography up.

I need to restart the game everytime I want to raise my skill. For example I am at 52% I take a picture it goes to 53 then I would need to reset the game to get to 54 and so on, and that's on the off chance that it works. Sometimes I have to do multiple restarts before it works again. So a restart doesnt really help me as I have to avoid any career involving photography.
