Hi there!
I recently successfully (I think) moved my Sims 4 game from my hard drive to my external hard drive. I say that I think I did this successfully, as the game launches still with the synlink I created to keep the game on my external drive. I'm playing on an old Macbook & could really use the space to improve function.
My question is - when I recently downloaded the update for the game, it says that I'm running out of space on my hard drive on my Mac. If I did the symlink successfully, wouldn't it automatically download the game update to the external drive?
As well - do I delete the old Sims 4 file that is still stored on my Mac hard drive? It is currently taking up roughly 24 GB of my 125 gigs.
Specs if they help:
2015 Macbook Air
Running Catalina 10.15.7
Thanks for the help in advance !! :🙂

The symlink is nothing to do with the game installation. If you want to install your game on the external drive you do this in EA App > Settings > Download > Install Location.
This is clearly explained in my written and video guides as it is a common misconception amongst Simmers.
