I've had the same problem. I recently was trying to connect my iphone calendar with my mac and was playing around with icloud not realizing it would affect my game. I followed the instructions on this page and deleted the old files. So now there is only one Electronic Arts file in Documents. Unfortunately there is another documents section called documents local and I deleted the content inside. There are no other files that I'm aware of that the game could be using to run, so why is it not opening any of my saves or mods.
Please open Terminal and copy and paste the following command then hit Enter/Return:
find ~ -type f -name "*Slot_*" 2>/dev/null
After a little while it will return the results of the search. Please copy and paste the results in a post here.
