Sims 3: can't update (super patch doesn't work)

I've been playing Sims 3 since 2009, but repeated uninstalling and reinstalling several times. I'm using MacBook Pro (mid 2010) since the first time, but updated it to El Capitan 10.11.6 this year.

The problem is that I was playing Sims 3 with the latest version and about 1 or 2 extension packs were installed as well. I uninstalled all of them for a personal reason, but reinstalled last month. Since then I can't update Sims 3 base game from version 1.42. I've tried updating it through the launcher and super patch from EA, but it won't work.

On launcher, I clicked OK when 'Software update is available' window popped up, but the update bar stops somewhere around 30% and the whole application just goes 'not responding'. So, I downloaded super patch and succeeded in un-zipping it, but when I try to run the application, it goes 'not responding' as well

I read many forums on update problems, but couldn't find a similar case to mine. Please help

    Hi @28sadalmelik,

    Please, try to uninstall the game from your Mac and install it again using Origin. If you have your games already registered in The Sims 3 website, you just need to install the Origin client, log into your EA account and click on the game to start the installation.

    i have the same problem i installed the sims 3 from origin and tried to play it through the origin game and it just says unexplained error occured. so i uninstalled it and then tried again and then did the superpatch 1.67 and it still wont wont from origin saying the same error it wont even open launcher..

    Hi, 

    My Macbook is a 2011 Macbook Pro running 10.12 Sierra.
    it has a  2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB and 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Memory
    Is that enough information?


    I only have sims 3 installed at the moment.

    @caitlinridsdale

    Please can you try following the instructions on applying the super patch manually here. Gatekeeper is probably stopping you from installing the patch because it's not signed properly by EA (it's perfectly safe to open).

    Hi there, i had to wait for my sims 3 to re download from origin after i deleted it to try something. I have tried to do the patch following that pages instructions but it still doesnt work. I think i will just partion my hard drive to Windows and Mac and try and play it on Windows.
