Sims 4 folder missing upon download

I just tried downloading the EA app and my game fresh onto an external drive using a new laptop that has never had the Sims on it. Using the EA app, I've set the location for my game to download into the Electronic Arts folder on my external drive (which is also where the app in installed).  The game installs a shortcut, but doesn't create a Sims 4 folder with all of the things the game needs to start up (cache, saves, etc). I've searched everywhere on my hard drive and my external drive, but no Sims 4 folder exists. So when I try to open the game, I receive this error message that's attached.  When I re-download my packs, a proper folder is created for them, but still nothing for the Sims game itself.  Any help would be much appreciated!

The game installation can be changed in EA App to wherever you choose. This is not to be confused with the location of the Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 folder which contains your saves, tray, and other user data. This folder is only ever created in the local Documents folder. If you move it to an external drive the game will create a new Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 in the local Documents folder as it only looks in this location for user data to load. If it doesn’t find data it creates a new TS4 folder.

If you want to store the Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 on an external drive you have to create a symlink https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mac/-Creating-a-symlink-in-macOS-to-store-the-Sims-4-folder-on-an/m-p/12329439
