sims isnt letting me shut it down after being stuck on loading page

i was going to edit a sim in the game when i have been stuck on the loading page for a day now, ill have sims up in the background because its not letting me quite the game. when i try quit it will tell me i need to end the game im currently playing but i cant do that from the loading game im stuck on. i have tried to restart and shut down my laptop to force quite the current sims game im playing however it tells me i have to quite the current game im playing first so i have ended up in a loop. the loading page is still telling me the little tips i can do in the game so it is loading but i think its just stuck on something and im not sure what to do.
