Alt-Tab induces permanent whitescreen

I have been having the same issue consistently for the past couple of days. It started out with the save file working fine until one day I left it on overnight and it started to whitescreen everytime I tried to Alt-Tab out.

Sorry for the long read, just providing all the details so I'm not asked if I did the same thing over and over. As thats not helpful for anyone of us.

I have done research on different forums for solutions.

Things I have tried:

Clearing EA Cache, Clearing my computer cache, repairing my sims4 game through EA and then restarting my PC

Trying to rid my computer of whatever I can to save storage. even though I dont think its a storage issue.

Trying to see if any of my pc hardware needs updating (it did not)

Checking my desktop resolution, and opening the option.ini file to see if the WxL matched (they did.)

Reduced any programs running in the background.

Did a Virus Scan(nothing came up that was detrimental or would have effected my game. it has been fixed since.)

Note that my GPU temp stays regulated frequently so it isnt that either.

My last option was to see if it was the save file. I loaded up my game to test if it only did it in the save file.

Testing Alt-Tab in the main menu allowed it to load. I then opened up the save I had an issue with.

Knowing It usually did it since I started playing a specific sim I opened up manage worlds, went to a completely different town, even did some building in that town (saved) and then tried again. Low and behold it did the same thing. white screened.

I determined it was the save, and began to try and transition all my households into a different save. I saved their apartment layouts and their houses and moved to a save with 1 family. I tested the alt-tab in that save and it loaded fine.

Placed down my other saves houses, and went back over to the other save to attempt to collect the families as they werent showing up in manage households. when i returned to that save I tested the alt tab again, and in the supposedly 'clean' save, it whitescreened.

its getting to the point where I dont wanna play sims anymore.

Im unsure if it has something to do with the houses as its not like I added any new furniture since this happened, and I use alot of the same furniture in different houses before this began.

for specs abt my computer i own a gaming laptop Asus Tuf Gaming A17, I currently have 2 hard drives, the larger one is where I keep my sims and its not close to being full. the main one has about 60gb on it. I have a graphics card that should be able to run sims more than well enough, and the game defaults my settings to high. I have a large amount of mods however I do not experience very much lag, or any if at all.

Any help on this would be appreciated as I feel like im losing my mind and have put hours into my sims.

  • @Rayonyx  Does this happen in "windowed fullscreen" (i.e. Borderless) and windowed modes as well as fullscreen mode?  Using Borderless would be a reasonable workaround.  This is not a surprising issue in an older game, and Sims 4 is older by gaming standards.  Many of them respond badly or unpredictably to alt-tab.

If you'd like me to look over a dxdiag, feel free to post one.

This is typically not a save-specific issue, so there's not much point in trying to transfer your sims to a new save.
