CAS UI Doesn’t Load – Stuck on Create-a-Sim Screen

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with The Sims 4 and I’m hoping someone can help.

Every time I try to enter Create-a-Sim (CAS), the CAS interface never loads. My Sim appears, but none of the UI shows up. The clothing categories, name field, aspiration/trait panel, and all other CAS options are completely missing. I’m unable to interact with anything and end up stuck on the screen until I force close the game.

What happens:

  • Open CAS (from Manage Worlds or another method).
  • The Sim loads, but the CAS UI never appears.
  • No clothing options, name box, traits, aspirations, or buttons are visible.
  • The game becomes unusable, and I have to force close it.

Things I’ve already tried:

  • Removed my Mods folder.
  • Cleared the cache (localthumbcache.package).
  • Repaired the game through the EA app.
  • Restarted my computer.
  • Made sure the game is fully updated.

Unfortunately, the issue is still happening.

Has anyone experienced this before or found a fix? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

  • I'm having the same issue and I'm having trouble solving it as well. Also when i try and re-enable my CC, the box will not stay checked.

  • ShavonteMarie  Does this happen with the game in windowed mode?  You can switch at the Main Menu, before you load CAS.  And do you have any files in ConfigOverride?  If so, please remove them.

naahn0  Same questions to you, but additionally, does this happen with your Mods folder removed?  The inability to reenable mods or custom content is covered in the first post of this thread:

    [CURRENT ISSUE] Anti-Virus blocking User Folder (Screenshots/Gallery/Mods..) | EA Forums - 11778999

But please don't reenable the content until the game is working overall.

Thanks for the suggestion! I checked my ConfigOverride folder, and it’s completely empty. I also tested the game in windowed mode, but the issue still occurs.

  • ShavonteMarie  And you repaired as well?  Have you removed the entire Sims 4 folder from Documents > Electronic Arts to force the game to spawn a fresh one?

If so, and it didn't help, please try playing in a clean boot.  This isn't a clean install of Windows, just a way to disable background apps that might be interfering.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

If this helps, you can selectively reenable services until you find the culprit, then either leave that disabled or (if it belongs to an app you want to keep using) let me know what it is so we can try to fix the underlying issue.
