Consistent Crash When Loading Household CAS

I've been working on a household for a while now and I hadn't noticed any issues, but now when I try to load them into CAS to keep working on them the game crashes every time. Other households load perfectly fine. I do have mods and CC installed (and used in the household) but removing them from the game files does not prevent the crashing. I've tried moving my entire Sims 4 folder (saves, mods, everything) to the desktop, running the game, and loading the household then, but it still crashes. I can only assume that some of my CC messed up the data of the sims in a way that the game can't just revert. I really don't want to lose all my progress on making these sims though. If I just had to remove all custom content from them that would be fine but I don't know if there's a way to do that without loading the household into CAS. Attaching crash logs from both my regular install and the new one. The household causing problems is uploaded to my gallery as Fujihama if that helps somehow. Someone please help me save my sims and not lose hours of work

  • Ezranian  Does the Gallery version of the household have the same issue for you?  Please download it and test, in a new save if you prefer.  Uploading to the Gallery can clear a lot of problems with sims or lots.

Separately, you can try splitting the household and testing each sim separately.  It's possible only one of them is broken.  That would make it easier to find the problem.

The gallery version also crashes the game, yes. I also just tried to load both the saved and gallery versions into the game through manage worlds and they both immediately crashed the game. I don't know how to split the household without loading them into either the world or CAS, so I can't be sure, but the crashing only started happening when I added a third sim to the household, so I think it's him that's the problem.

  • Ezranian  You can choose Load Game, which kicks you to Manage Worlds, then click the household and see a few different options there.  You should be able to split and place the sims elsewhere.

Unfortunately I cannot do that, as the household was never placed into a world before the glitch began, and now I can't place them or the game instantly crashes

  • Ezranian  It's possible that some of the custom content, or maybe a mod (e.g. a custom trait), needs to be present in order for this household to load.  I don't know whether you tested with all of your usual mods and cc present AND updated for the newest patch, but if not, that's the only other idea I have.

Your issue reminded me of this one:

Crashes on Mainmenu | EA Forums - 12139111

The context is obviously different, but the underlying cause could be the same or similar.

The game just updated itself and the household seems to be completely functional again somehow. I'm saving a backup version of the household with no CC just in case though, as well as a backup of the save I'm planning to add them into in case this happens again.

All three sims in the household are mermaids with CC tattoos in their mermaid form, so you could be right that my issue was related to the one you linked. Maybe it was fixed in the newest patch, idk.

Thank you for your help with this, I appreciate it even though it didn't work out :)

  • Ezranian  You're the second person I've seen that said the patch fixed this issue, so thanks for the update.  I don't know what exactly changed, but at the important part is that it's fixed.
