Crash help

Hi there. So, I am experiencing quite an issue and am hoping someone experienced can help. Also, I hope this server is where I can go for some technical support. So, I haven't touched Sims for a few months, and am aware some updates have taken place. I do own quite a good amount of purchased content as well. Unfortunately, for the past two days, I have had a ton of crashes. Anywhere from as soon as I load up the game to maybe ten minutes into the game. Granted, I did have a ton of CC and mods. I did anywhere from narrowing down what CC it could be and mods, to clearing the cache, to verifying files in Steam. I reinstalled the EA app, my GPU is up-to-date, I even went to the extreme and reinstalled Sims itself, and started with a brand new folder. Still, nothing. I have renamed the folder, and that didn't seem to do much.  I don't know if it's a pack that's suddenly corrupted, a hardware issue, which is extremely odd if that's the case, as I have a good PC. And I have even tried to lower settings to low, and I don't normally play in full screen anyway. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this has been ongoing for at least two days.

Also, if I should post any packs I own, the crash report, I do have MCCC, so if I should post the latest exemption, please let me know.

  • Stegerain  To be clear, does the game crash with no mods or custom content present at all?  Please test if you haven't already, and let me know.

If the game crashes with no mods or cc, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

I don't need a lastexception, MCCC-generated or not, as the errors that produce these don't typically cause crashing, just infinite loading or other in-game issues.

  • Stegerain  The crashes in your dxdiag look like what happens sometimes on high-end Intel CPUs that the motherboard may overclock by default.  This is sometimes solved with a BIOS update, so look for an update for your board.  I can't see which one you have from the dxdiag, but you can find the model printed on the board itself, among other places, and look for the Asus support page.

If that doesn't help, or you already have the newest version installed (yours is 1663), boot into BIOS and disable a CPU Turbo Boost setting that's usually called something slightly different on Asus boards.  It'll have Turbo in the name and be under Advanced settings.

You didn't ask about Sims 3, but your newer CPU is the issue there.  Here are some workarounds:

I honestly downloaded 3 as like a last resort if I needed to switch games haha. I’m going to update BIOS. I honestly didn’t think that was going to be the issue. I did update it. Is removing a turbo boost necessary?
Going back to an issue I had when I first tried a fresh save. The game ended up freezing eventually.

  • Stegerain  If updating the BIOS fixes the issue, you don't need to do anything else.  For some players, maybe around 25-30% (just a guess), that's enough.  Others need to disable CPU Turbo Boost as well.

You don't need to switch games, but I do think Sims 3 still stands on its own merits.  Feel free to ask for any help you need with that game if you decide to try it again.
