What happens when the bug occurs? When we try to create a new Sim there is a starry nighttime background and NO SIM. You can see the little Sim avatar face on the bottom left hand corner of the screen, and you can hear their voice, but they are "lost in space". When I opened up Sims after not having played it for many months there was an update. When we tried to create a new Sim and it did it's starry night thing I rebooted the pc just in case. Nothing worked. Can't play the game if you can't create a Sim...
What do you expect to see? A Sim!

Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. I didn't make the patch. When I opened up the game it said there was an update and the game couldn't be played until the update was made. I do not have any expansion packs, just simply Sims 4.

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I'm not sure how to recreate it, but it seems a fairly common one judging by this thread
What happens when the bug occurs? I open the game and multiple sims either have full body red & white checkered skins, or their skin has a checkered shading over their normal skin tone.
What do you expect to see? NOT checkered skin patterns

And before you make the suggestion to repair my game, I have already done that. Twice.
It repaired the skins of two of my 4 household members (adult male & teen male) but I have a young adult female who still has a checkerboard overlay on her skin and half the sims listed in the social tab have some form of this skin texture error as well. I can't discern any rhyme or reason why some are affected and some aren't, nor why repairing fixed two sims and left the rest broken.
suggestions for other things to try would be helpful. I've dug through this thread and all I see is page after page saying "repair your game" but as previously stated that's not working for me
