Error opening The Sims 4

When I try to open the game the message "Cannot open this link 'ms-gamingoverlay' appears, it started to appear after the last update, it always worked correctly, but now the game opens and closes within seconds of the message, sometimes it appears errors (I left an image of one of the errors that appear), but it usually just closes, I've tried everything, I've cleared the cache, repaired the game, removed all the mods, uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing works... I'm almost formatting it, will it be that is possible resolve?

  • juliawp  The first error looks like it's related to the XBox gaming overlay.  Please disable Game Mode and Game Bar, both under Windows Settings > Gaming.

The breakpoint error in your second screenshot has multiple causes, one of which is the game running out of memory.  Your dxdiag (and thanks for providing one) shows that your laptop's page file is relatively small and mostly used, and while your 8 GB RAM is enough for Sims 4, it might not be enough for Sims 4 plus everything else running at the same time.  That's where the page file comes into play: the CPU stores extra data there that should be in RAM but doesn't fit.

The problem is that the page file is allocated from the system drive, and your drive has very little free space, so you can't really assign much more to the page file.  Please try to clear as much room as possible.  Getting to ~30 GB free would be ideal but is perhaps unlikely given the small size of the drive overall, so just clear whatever you can.  The Downloads folder is a good place to look for extraneous files.

If you can clear at least another 8 GB, the next step is increasing the size of the page file to give the game and your system a bit more room to maneuver.  Here's how (option three):

Set the minimum to 12288 and the max to 16384, and restart, then test Sims 4.
