Fires Since Downloading Cats & Dogs

Ever since I downloaded the cats & dogs expansion pack I am having 3-4 fires per day in my house. I don't know if the two are related but it is making the game practically unplayable. Many of the fires start on pieces of art on the wall and some of them cannot be extinguished for some reason, as my Sims are unable to get to it. Anyone else having this problem or know of a fix?
