Gallery Saves Disappeared

All of a sudden my saved gallery lots, Sims and rooms have entirely disappeared. My save files are still there. When I look in my Tray files in my game folder, I can see all of my content is still there, but for some reason it is not accessible in-game.

I have tried deleting cache files (I do this often anyways) and I also retried repairing the game in Origin, with no luck.

Any help would be so appreciated, as I finally had my game working smoothly but now this has happened and I can't play.

Thank you!

  • Also, similar reports suggested unticking the "hide reported content" option in the gallery, and then applying changes, but that option wasn't clicked in the first place, so I do not think that is my problem.

  • @AalyahReed  Are your saved items gone only from the online Gallery, or also from My Library?  The latter contains the files saved on your computer, whether you've downloaded them or created them yourself.

If the files aren't present in your library either, please post a screenshot of your Tray folder.

Hi @puzzlezaddict thank you for replying!

My previous gallery saves (lots, sims, rooms) have all disappeared from the My Library tab. Only default Maxis lots, like "Ophelia Villa" are still in there.

I have included a screenshot showing my tray files in the My Documents folder.

I have tried repairing the game again.

@AalyahReed  Please move your entire Tray folder to your desktop and launch the game to create a new folder.  Open the Tray folder on your desktop and click the Date Modified header to sort by date.  You'll notice that clusters of 4 or 5 files all have exactly the same timestamp: these correspond to one library entry.  Please highlight the newest cluster of files (all with exactly the same date, and make sure you get all of them), right-click and select Copy, then open the new Tray folder and right-click to paste the items.  Load your game and see whether that one item appears in your library.

If it does not, please delete the copies you moved to the new Tray folder and repeat the process, this time with the next-newest cluster of files.  The point is to see whether you can get a single one of these items to load in-game.

I am not sure I understand; attached is another screenshot of my original tray file contents, now on the desktop. A new Tray file has been generated in the documents/Electronic Arts/Sims4 folder  I clicked date modified and the most recent file is from today at 8:49 AM. Under "Type" It says it is a "blueprint file" but I don't see anything else corresponding to it. I seem to me that I am missing a cluster of 4 to 5 corresponding files. Did I look in the wrong place?

Tried again. The three most recent gallery saves show up with a white flying llama icon in the gallery, but not their screenshot. When I further click the icon, the game says "could not locate this item."

@AalyahReed  I think that's the issue: your other files were somehow deleted.  This is a good explanation of what you'd see under normal conditions:

    https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=26535.0

Some of the files are sort of extraneous, e.g. you'd get the llama icon but the house itself would still be placeable.  But without most of the data, the game probably can't read your Tray items at all.

You may at least be able to recover some of your Library items.  Look for files that are not Blueprint files, and you may find a full or full-enough set of files for the game to read.  (In that case, please try copying those files to a new Tray folder, as described before.)

If that doesn't work, try searching your computer for the missing files.  Open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, then search for each missing file extension, e.g. *.hhi or *.sgi (with the asterisk).  If you find those files, you can add them to your current Tray folder, sort by date again, and see whether you now have a full set.  Please check in OneDrive too, that is if you use it.

Otherwise, the files you have left are unfortunately not usable, and the only thing you can really do is re-save the households and builds that exist in your current saves.

Edit:  If you can at least place the items with the flying llama icon, you can try changing one detail and re-saving them too, which should generate a new set of Tray files.

I should have asked this before: If I have a backup Sims 4 Folder on a USB port from earlier today, can I somehow restore those files (perhaps by copying and pasting} into the new Tray folder?

Now I am wondering if I moved a folder accidentally along the way today.

In Documents/Electronic Arts/Sims 4 the Tray file is empty.

The only possibly accessible old gallery tray files are under Documents/hp.applications.pakage.appdata.

Does that sound right? (Thank you for taking the time to troubleshoot with me)

@AalyahReed  I did suggest that you move the original Tray folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4, so if you did that, the new one the game created should be empty.  I'm not sure what any Tray items are doing in hp.applications.package.appdata, or what that location is even for, but sure, try moving the files from there into the new Tray folder and see what happens.  If you don't like the results, trash the files or move them elsewhere.

And yes, you can try restoring the Tray files from your USB as well, by copying and pasting.  There's no harm in testing.
