Game constantly crashing

Got a new computer a few months ago. Didn't realize until I bought it that it doesn't have the capacity for the game. I bought a plug in hard drive to fix the problem, and it worked for the first few months. I went on a trip and had my computer without my hard drive for a while. When I plugged it in again, my game started randomly crashing and closing about every half hour. I've gotten used to saving every few minutes, but it's become more frequent and it's getting really difficult, I've tried repairing my game multiple times but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

  • Update: it's gotten worse, my game now will crash in any game load, like if I have to go to build mode or I tell my sims to travel

  • JudyWard  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs.

If you get another crash, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Please run the dxdiag with the external drive plugged in so I can see its specs too.
