Game crashes on startup

Hi, my game keeps crashing on startup, it will load into the main menu but then usually when I click anything the game freezes and minimises, I then can't open the game back up full screen and have to force exit via task manager. I am not very technologically adept so I don't really know what to try :(

  • chatterchar123  Your dxdiag lists two crashes of the graphics driver and a pile of generic Windows errors.  So please start with a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Hit Windows key-X
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
    • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes, and enter
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Windows Terminal (Administrator)”
    • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes, and enter
    • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, hit Windows key-i, select Update & Security, and click the box to check for updates.  If any install, restart again afterwards.

Next, do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the graphics driver, as described here:

I'm having this exact problem too! I removed my mods folder entirely and ran on a clean file + repaired the game files through the EA app and it's only even gotten to the main screen twice which just led to freezing after clicking anything. Now it just fails to load and stays stagnant on a white screen. I included my dxdiag info as well.

hi, thanks for your response! i tried this but unfortunately did not work and it would open but not run properly, here is my dxdiag info:

  • chatterchar123  Please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If this doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
